I've been following a bit more closely as the election approaches and what is particularly striking to me about some Trump supporters is less about intellect and more their lack of emotional maturity and ability to regulate and basically behave as adults. When challenged in even the most gentle and civilised of ways by reporters they respond wildly and some of the performative behaviour displayed you wouldn't tolerate from an emotionally healthy 9 year old. Clearly that's not all his supporters but given that cults feed off the vulnerabilities of their targets it's unsurprising that it seems to be a much higher proportion than would be 'normal'. There's the double whammy that in trump they have someone completely incapable of regulating himself, so a "role model" to tell them it's ok to be like this. What the underlying reasons are for this I don't know, is there more childhood trauma in the average US child's upbringing that would lead to a significant minority growing up in this fashion? I don't know if it's a peculiarly American thing but trump does seem to have unlocked/tapped into something weird in the psyche of a significant minority of some generations of Americans.

He's definitely not the immediately morally better option. For" the left", It's a roll the dice and see how much he fucks things up, in the hope that it's easier to achieve the things they want, in the aftermath.

Big gamble. Not a particularly sensible option. Very slim chance of success.

Nah, in prison he'd be King of cell block A within two weeks, running rackets and getting his Big Macs delivered daily. They'd recognize a fellow nutter and adore him for it.

The hilarious irony of this, beyond that he is making this statement at the Detroit Economic Club, is that Detroit actually has one of the highest rates of economic growth of any city in the US at present, largely due to the work and policies of their Democratic government (mayor and entire city council). They obviously started at a very low level after the bankruptcy, and relative affordability compared to most other metros on the US has contributed with incoming population and investment, but the turn around they are helping to realise is impressive, especially in the context of the challenges they have—and continue—to face.

It would actually be great if every city, after Harris was elected, had the trajectory of Detroit.
