Donald Trump

I find it amusing that outsiders seem to think a complete overhaul of the basic foundational notions of freedom found in the U.S. Constitution have to be overhauled.

Arrogance doesn’t even begin to cover it.

“They” need to get “their” shit in gear, because “they’re” crazy!

Uh huh, suuuuure!

Arrogance, imho, would be disparaging the opinions of other people simply because they are "outsiders".

No surprise there, though.

Well if I’m wrong about who is going to win, then good luck with the next four years

I’m not a gun lover — at all — and I agree with @ChicagoBlue. His point isn’t about 2A; it’s about others here blaming “the system” or “the Constitution” instead of the bad, bad actors who have infested it.

Bad actors do bad things > bad actors use weaknesses in the system/constitution > bad actors get away with bad things.

Rinse and repeat.

Then blame the bad actors, not the weaknesses in the system/constitution that allow the bad behaviour in the first place.

It's akin to the "guns don't kill people, people kill people" argument.

What do you view as weaknesses in the US system of governance or the US constitution and how would you change them for the better?

As a practical matter, little is likely to change; so my question is in the realm of hypothetical/aspirational as opposed to something which might foreseeably occur.
Off the top of my head... I'm not enamored of the way judges are appointed. And I'm not at all a fan of the electoral college system. Citizens United should be overturned.

Having been on the receiving end when hiding out in a store room with a suspected active shooter in the mall you can actually see where they are coming from in a bizarre way. I had nothing to defend my family with and it occurred to me that if I lived there and could carry a concealed weapon I bloody well would.

Mental really.
How many active shooters are ever killed by our gun toting friends across the pond? You know all those places you can carry one?

The Constitution isn’t getting amended anytime soon! FFS, we can’t even agree to do a Border Bill, because it’s not draconian enough for the MAGA fucktards!

If you think you can find the votes to change 2A, then I’m not sure what to say. It is a matter of FREEDOM to many Americans, and a matter of necessity to many others.

The U.S. still has frontier country, where shit kills you for fun and guns are a way of life. Plus, the foundational reason for guns is felt more vehemently today than ever before for those that will die on that hill, as it is to protect you from the Government, not your neighbor!
So when Trump turns all Hitler can everyone start shooting up the government? When those laws came in it was muskets, maybe the 2A says yes you can have a weapon but it has to be a musket not an AR15!
