Donald Trump

Loyal yes. But effective?

If Trump wants to turn the DoJ into the gestapo then he needs someone with nous. He's got a nonce!
He doesn't need to be clever. He just needs to be able to order investigations into those on Trump's enemies list, and anyone who gets in his way will be fired.

I've absolutely no doubt that Gaetz will do exactly what Trump wants him to do, unlike Elliot Richardson, who refused Nixons order to fire the guy heading up the investigations into Watergate.

Precisely. First order, fire Jack Smith. Quash any and all investigations in to Trump.

This makes depressing fucking reading:

I can absolutely guarantee that he would not even be considered for a security clearance based on that long list of connections, but here we are, and he's going to be the 47th President of the United States of America having already served as the 45th whilst all of that was known. His last term culminated with boxes of highly classified documents being removed from his private residence, a situation that would have seen anyone else locked up in solitary confinement awaiting trial on charges under the Espionage Act.

People talking about the 'muricans having elected a criminal to the white house? Pfft. One of the leading figures in the Dublin underworld, one Gerry Hutch (aka "The Monk"), has confirmed that he's running in the Irish general election at the end of the month.

He's one of the leading members of one of the families involved in the long running Hutch/Kinahan feud in Dublin

Jack Smith has said he'll wrap up his investigation and resign.

By the way, if one were to be fair enough to consider the DOJ targeting Trump to be an attempt by Biden and the Democrats to target their opponents ( as many sensible people already do), it would make sense that Trump's appointees 1st job would be to rid the DOJ or partisans who spend their time and resources targeting and prosecuting their opponents.

So it shouldn't surprise anyone if the likes of Jack Smith, who has said he is resigning anyways, were fired

The real issue would be if Trump's DOJnnow begins to investigate and prosecute potential opponents of Trump... Then we'd have a real issue.

Granted, some of those who's joining us in our outcry when that happens were suspiciously nowhere to be found when the Biden DOJ was prosecuting his opposition the last 2 years.
