Dortmund (H) - CL QF | Post-Match Thread

Tie far from over, that was a great game for the neutral i'm sure, nervy for us City fans though.
We weren't 100% on our game or in control of the game as we have been in most matches this season.
Dortmund are comfortable playing out from the back and then attack in numbers. At times it was like a basketball game, end to end.
We had a slice of luck with the Bellingham goal, great save from Ederson with the Haaland one on one, some of our steady players such as Dias and Rodri were a bit shaky this evening.
Foden missed a couple of good chances but overall we didn't create that many chances

Dortmund have a lot of quality in their side, Bellingham looks an unreal prospect.

Sets it up for a big game next week, we're going to have to improve.

I see another Pep bizarre team selection coming next week......

i just don't know how or why we have this fear in the champions league and its not just the players but pep's setup to the win is just about saving grace but big talking point with them scoring is city are just to nice and don't hurt teams in champions league

we have to take the chains off this team and stop playing the false 9 and get one or two strikers on the pitch
pep got goals on the bench sterling jesus aguero and KDB to feed them so stop over thinking it

some bit of sloppy play from ederson and dias but both come back good with some blocks and saves
dortmond are dangerous and haaland power and speed and dias bouncing off him and falling down was scary
i will say city will score over there and maybe it will suit us because they are poor in defence

Have you heard of punctuation?

Next week is going to be the death of me. Could we please just have a couple of years ago and finally get to see a European semi final after failing for years now.
The last semi I saw in Europe was during a boys weekend in Amsterdam .... but that's a different story :O

We got what we deserved tonight, JUST ! (I think their disallowed goal should have stood).

Can't help but think Pep will set us up perfectly having seen Dortmund in the flesh.

I saw someone on twitter mention that we are normally bad at the quarter stage due to the International break and rhat could be a factor as many of our players tend to go and play and by the time we’re back in the swing of things we’re already disadvantaged in the tie

Rodri played three noticeably poor passes but his pass completion for the gam was better than his average in competition and only three players have an average that better than 94.9%, which Rodri achieved tonight.
It was the timing and the results of the bad passes not the volume that was the issue. Not all passes are created equal.

Not at our best but deserved to win.

Everyone’s saying the Bellingham goal should have stood. Not for me, in any European game, that’s always been a foul for foot up. Don’t see why we should be refereed any differently.

Think that win could be a huge moment psychologically for the team. As smooth and assured as they look in the league, there is a collective uncertainty when they hit this stage in the CL. I've no doubt they'll feel more at ease for the 2nd leg.

Fair play to KDB, I had slight concerns about how long it would take him to get back to his best after the last injury but he is really on it now. He dragged the team through that tonight.

And Phil. What a player he is already and what a superstar he'll become. If his finishing was up to his normal standards he'd probably have got a hat-trick.

Phew. I can see us beating them over there. We can't play as badly as that over there surely?
Dias was pap tonight, been running on empty for weeks now.
KDB was star man tonight and drove us forward.
Rodri was poor and not sure what that face holding was in the first half?
Too many players wanting too much time on the ball tonight.
Foden was superb but could have scored a couple more.
Still expect us to get through, we will score at least one over there but perhaps with a different formation?Ederson

Rodri played three noticeably poor passes but his pass completion for the gam was better than his average in competition and only three players have an average that better than 94.9%, which Rodri achieved tonight.
What are the stats for his lack of pace, and him making poor passes when under pressure (even if they’re completed)?

That’s two poor performances in the last two big home games from the lad. Needs to step up big time!

Foden and De Bruyne excellent tonight, but there was some sloppy passing by the defence and midfield at times. Good result, especially seeing as Dortmund were robbed of a perfectly good goal.
I'd be upset if we'd had a goal like that ruled out, but Bellingham did go in studs up, do you can argue that it was dangerous play, even though he got the ball cleanly. I also think we had a perfectly good penalty overturned (a kick out that makes contact with someone's knee is almost always a penalty), but I can also see why they didn't give it.

it seems people expect us to win 5 0 in a champions league quarter final it very rarely happens.city controlled large parts of the game should have had a couple more and conceded a very good goal.it happens when you play good sides,we looked much better when jesus came on
