Double Adverts

Was getting one the other day which covered the screen, couldn't even get rid of it to log in, the only option was 'close and go to site' or something, think it was a betting one will screenshot if it does it again. Sky bet it may well have been.

Well the ads target what you like to view online

Ad blockers stop it.

Oh dear...
Indeed. I was getting two adverts at the top of the screen on my phone, but it's back to one now; hermaphrodite escorts services, weird ads on this site, I tell you.

I use a program called Hostsman (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.abelhadigital.com/hostsman" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.abelhadigital.com/hostsman</a>) that eliminates almost all of the advertising on all web sites and it is free.

How it works is that there are groups that keep tabs on the bulk of the advertising listings out there. So if you look at the source of the web pages, it will make references to things like a1.admaster.net and many many others. This program occasionally updates the list and simply puts a listing in your hosts file on your computer. This then shunts all of that traffic to local (which is nothing) so the pages show up very clean and loading of pages is much faster. The only thing that I've found that is a bit of a bother is when I do a Google search, the first few entries are generally from companies that pay Google to put their listings first. So those go through an ad service for their listings which means those go nowhere. However it is very easy to install and very easy to get around the problem. Just right click the hosts icon and uncheck 'enable hosts.' Then do it again and click flush DNS cache. That clears out the entries in cache and you can click on those things.

My in-laws are completely computer illiterate and my father-in-law is more than a little bit of a perv. Gave them a new computer a few years ago and within a few hours he had destroyed it with bugs due to searching for porn. I put on hostsman and have not had a single issue on their machine since. It does a great job and again, its free.

This works differently than a typical ad-blocker that is part of the browser. This happens at a layer much closer to the network so that the application (browser) doesn't have a chance to make a wrong decision.

Sorry mate, that should be sorted now but please let me know if the problem re-occurs.

If you get it again, either here or elsewhere, the close button is top left. This particular one had a 5 second countdown from when it first shows before the button can appears.
