Douglas Luiz (signed for Villa)

Thought he looked good on the ball and wanted to drive forward, but he was also caught ball watching a couple of times and was consequently slow to pick up a runner. Spurs are a big strong side, so it will have been an eye opener for him.

He didn't have enough time to make an impression. Villa were visibly wilting under the constant Spurs pressure, giving away three goals in the final 17 minutes.

Luiz will definitely get more game time as the season progresses. From the little I've seen of him, he's a class act.

He got about 10 mins with injury time, and unfortunately it coincided with his team collapsing and allowing Spurs to take advantage.

Despite it being an almost impossible time to be introduce into such a game......He looked good though, being calm, composed and strong in the challenge - i didn't see the dwelling on the ball or being caught in possession?

He looks a very useful deep lying midfielder, and Villa will benefit hugely from his presence and ability.

Strong in the challenge? You didn't see their last goal then, he challenged as 10 years old.

Harsh. He was flat footed when Sissoko powered past him. At best, he could have brought him down with a tactical foul, but we could never advocate that. ;-)
