Douglas Luiz

to me this is either a replacement for Ferna or we buy back cheap to sell on and make a profit.

Similar to Angelino transfer possibly?
Yep, makes sense from a business perspective

Im not sure he’s good enough to take Fernandinho’s spot in the squad but if we are looking for a like for like I don’t think anyone in world football could do that

Im hoping we don’t sign a box to box player as I’d like Doyle to be given a chance to play a squad role over the next couple of seasons so it may make sense to bring in Luiz for a couple of years to see how he develops, sharing his game time with Rodri

We will be buying him back for £27.5m as he’s worth at least £40m in the current market. Even if we buy back and the ask for another £12m off Villa to keep him

This.

I do think he's good enough for us though and would be a solid option to replace Fernandinho.

He'll only get better under Pep and has good mobility, which Rodri obviously lacks.

Pep really wanted him to stay two years ago so I could definitely see him giving him the time of day and bringing him back. One of those ones where it’s probably good either way. Also in covid times if we’re trying to sign some bigger names a relatively less expensive transfer like this seems a no brainer

That looks the most likely option. He will stay at Villa and an agreement will be made to pay us the difference between his current value and the buy back price.

If he’s worth £40m in the current market then why not bring him back for the lower price and see how he goes here?

I reckon Villa are likely to bank the 27m, more than double what they paid and they will go back into the market. He is a good player for them but 40m on a defensive mid for Villa is a staggering amount.

I think he`s top class. Villa fans absolutely love him, seen plenty of people saying he`s already top 5 DMs in the league. Pep clearly rated him, he would probably be playing for us these days if he could get a work permit back then
When word reached Pep Guardiola in 2018 that work-permit issues were preventing Douglas Luiz from playing for #ManCity, he sent video footage to the Home Office explaining how the midfielder would be important to his side in the months and years ahead.

Decent pace (easily quicker than Rodri), good in tight spaces, great defender and a good passer as well. Already a complete midfielder. £27.5m is an absolute bargain (by buying him and selling him to Villa we`ve already made a 5m profit on him). Personally, I would like either Luiz or Zakaria to replace Dinho when he leaves. Locatelli looks good, but he`s pretty similar to Rodri, which is not a bad thing, but I think it would be an advantage having 2 very different DM options.

Interesting concept..Has that ever happened regards a player before ? None spring to mind, but if feasible a good agreement.. Like Zakaria personally.
