i'm not really here
so i need a international driving permit for the country i want to drive in, they used to do them at the post office but no longer, from what i gather you now go to a paypoint shop, can anyone advise is it just the aplication the shop does or do they issue the IDP, thanks in advance

You may also need a licence check code from the DVLA website, link below, if you are hiring a car in Europe. I'm not sure if you need one elsewhere.
These give details of licence, convictions, and class of vehicle you can drive, and are to be shown when you collect the hire car. They are only valid for three weeks so don't get the code too early.

Not really about the IDP but be sure you have a credit card when picking up you car in Europe. We went to Italy a few years ago and when picking up the car at Naples airport I was asked for my credit card. I didn't own a credit card but gave them my switch card that'd I'd used to pay for the car hire upfront. They said it has to be a credit card and after a good ten minutes arguing refused to let me have the car. Long story short I lost aout £400. I now have a credit card purely for this reason.

I take one of these every time I hire a car in the EU, at least once a year.
Never been asked for it yet.
