Does anyone else think that these sound like distinctly dodgy deals?

I could imagine USA or maybe Anzhi or even the gulf with the oil money but two strikers that (because of their age and wages) Chelsea couldn't have sold in a month of sundays are both being courted by some team in China the vast majority of football fans will have never heard of. Even accepting that a team in China would go for it, for them to go for both players with presumably a combined wage of £400k-£500k/week is mind-boggling.

The club has previously bribed refs to throw games their way. The average crowd for Shanghai Shenhua games is 10k..........

Something smells and it isn't shark fin soup.........

Just their way of promoting the game over there. By all accounts football is taking off big time in China, and what better way to promote it than for a club to buy 2 stars from the English Premier League?

Good luck to them, they're doing for the Chinese league what Beckham claimed to do for the Major League. Both parties will know the score. Players know they're getting shit loads to promote a brand, and the clubs know they're paying shit load for players who are past it, but who will promote that brand.

It's players who go to that Anzhi who do my head in. Eto'o is so much better than that, but I don't think that's a case of promoting the Russian league, it's simply a matter of greed.

Have you noticed that Neymar has turned down a move to Madrid & told Barcelona & Madrid to come back in 2014.

Lucas Moura has said he's in no rush to leave Brazil, has there ever been a time in recent history where, so many Brazilian exports want to be repatriated, Alex wants to go back to Brazil, Robinho wants to go back, Ronaldinho is there.

The money is really good in Brazil, Neymar at Santos is the 7th highest paid player in the world & at 19 years old.

We know about Russia's money, the oil Oligarchs, Roman, Ahnzi...

We see Indians in football now with the Venkys at Blackburn.

The BRIC countries are the four emerging markets that is said to be growing & could eventually topple the Western old guard. Brazil, Russia, India & China.

The Anelka & Drogba deal is just the beginning of showing the Chinese flexing their financial muscle in football right now

It happens, from time to time. ;-)

I don't see the issue? They want to promote the game, have a shit load of money and obviously couldn't attract such players in their prime. Drogba will demolish defences in that league and look like he was 26 again whilst earning a mint. Everybody wins.

Don't know about Anelka, but Drogba will totally destroy that league, no matter what age he is. He is in Amazing form still and is beasting around. Also I think this will help Torres that Drogba leaves

OK - this free spending, wealthy club can afford the like of Drogba and Anelka to promote the game in China.

This quote is only from Wikipedia but still...........

Controversy
Zhu Jun has been infamous for interfering with the team management of Shanghai Shenhua football club.[citation needed] On August 4, 2007, he even forced the manager to name him in the squad of Shanghai Shenhua in a game against English giants Liverpool FC [1]

In the 2011 season because of the shortage of cash, Zhu Jun decided to sell most players in the squad including the top goal scorer Duvier Riascos, Du Wei and Gao Lin, causing the team to free-fall in the league. On August 17, 2011, the angered fans openly demanded Zhu Jun to leave the club from the stand of Hongkou Stadium. Shortly after the club reacted by declaring that the club considered moving the team out of Shanghai, which further infuriated the supporters.[citation needed]

Yup, sounds like exactly the sort of club to spend £500k/week on Anelka and Drogba :p
