Surprised there isn’t a thread on this. Earlier today 5 people - including 3 children - were stabbed outside a school in Dublin city centre. Rumours that the perpetrator was an Algerian asylum seeker which has led to rioting on the streets with the far right being blamed for the subsequent unrest. Some disturbing footage online of police officers being outnumbered and attacked.

Welcome to 2023. Gotta get that riot started before anythings confirmed or proven incorrect. Anyway, it was on twitter? What more do you need to hear! Go smash some stuff up and traumatise pensioners and kids.
Yep. There’ll be plenty of time to shout stuff at each other when the facts have been established.

What we know

Police in Dublin say violent clashes are ongoing between officers and what they describe as "far-right" protesters.
  • The violence is happening near where members of the public - including children - were injured in a knife attack this afternoon in the city centre
  • Officers with riot shields and batons have clashed with members of the crowd, and a number of police vehicles have been damaged
  • It's not clear what caused the unrest
  • A man who’s been arrested in connection with the knife attack earlier today is also receiving treatment for serious injuries, and police say they aren’t looking for anyone else
  • Helen McEntee, Ireland’s justice minister, said a “thuggish and manipulative elements must not be allowed to use an appalling tragedy to wreak havoc”

What's app messages were flying around saying the attacker was a Somalian, no evidence of this yet of course and there is an image a man on ground who does not look foreign however he could be a victim. But that's all if takes nowadays.

I am watching it unfold. While there are valid concerns and questions to be asked, this appears to be pointless destruction of the capital by what looks like mostly a bunch of unhinged, hatefilled, middle ages blokes, kids, and out and out criminals that have no doubt stabbed people themselves

It’s bad atm. Got a lot of pals in and around Dublin messaging me, calling and sending videos and I fear this could escalate pretty fucking bad.

People are very angry at the failed open borders

I understand that a lot of people are - understandably - very angry at life.

Having an nominal target helps to stop the question coming back to,

"Being reasonable, what could I have done to feel better about myself, or things in general?"

Or,

"Aww fuck, why do I always feel shit in November? Or when money is tight? How am I gonna deal with both?"

All true, but then there’s genuine fucking anger at the incident that kicked it off.
Looting isn’t going to win an argument granted but Dublin has been a powder keg waiting to go off for a little while.

I will also say that the only non football tweet I got on my timeline was someone saying they'd "confirmed with witnesses" that it was a foreigner. It had a random anti-immigration hashtag. That was the first I heard anything was happening.

Pretty obvious to me, Twitter - the company/the service - loves to spread these rumours. I'm not anti-immigration or Irish. But they shoved that right under my nose.

Funnily enough, this is what Elon is trying to say hasn't happened in relation to Anti-Semitism in recent weeks. It's rubbish. Youtube as well - it keeps trying to shove RW / borderline extremist stuff down my throat - in years, i've not watched a single such video. But it keeps coming up in the feed: Every time I watch something random, it suggests two or three other videos on the subject and then something unrelated but in that same sensationalist/RW vein.

Can our countries afford to leave them to carry on doing this, when rumours quickly lead to riots?
