My eldest daughter, 34, had one about 3 years ago, and a piece of the clot broke off, travelled north and went through her heart and lodged in her lung - known as a pulmonary embolism. Fortunately, it broke up passing through her heart, or she wouldn't be here. She'd had a PE as a teenager, so they tried her on warfarin. That didn't work, so she has an injection into her stomach every night of Clexane (sp). On her mobile, it comes up as Bruisedbelly (it used to be a Blackberry!). She has to wear those stockings whenever she flies - in 2016 she had 64 flights!
It happened 3 days before her birthday, and I told her how lucky she was - I could have been arranging her funeral instead of her birthday. It was a Monday, and she was in work on Friday taking a VIP on a factory tour, ( I think I may have mentioned she works for Bentley motors) and got a bollocking from one of the directors for being in. She phoned me up the following week in tears on her way home, saying she had just heard that an actor on the Law & Order series had just died. Yep. He'd had a DVT, a piece broke off, and stopped his heart.
It certainly brought it home how lucky she was.
Sorry about the above, but it's a serious subject. Fortunately, the medical profession work wonders to treat this complaint, and you should be fine. My mum had 3 over the years, and lived to be 84. The last time my blood was checked, I was told that it was highly unlikely I would have one, so that's one thing less to worry about. I'm told watching City is incurable.
