Dzeko and Negredo partnership

Well, they've proven me wrong recently. Instead of moaning at Pellegrini for playing them together when it hadn't been working, I'd like to congratulate him for offering us a great option up front! Still don't think it's perfect and they do seem more like two individuals but who am I to argue with something working so productively.

It's interesting that it's taken a video of Negredo hugging a smiling Dzeko and getting a bottle of booze to shake the myth that they can't play effective;y together-or at least to reframe it as they can only do so at home against relegation fodder like west ham.
But Manuel Pellegrini , who relies on video-based analysis of actual match incidents not impressions or body language, has known since October 30 thar Dzeko and Negredo can be a very effective pairing.
This was in an away game against top six contenders Newcastle, at St. James Park in the Capital One Cup.He'd not intended to try them out but was obliged to improvise due to an injury to Jovetic in the opening minutes. For much of the match the whole side didn't get going-until Silva replaced a floundering Rodwell. Then an exchange of passes between the two strikers put Negredo clear and he was only foiled by a fine reaction save from Krull. In extra time we seized the lead when Dzeko attacked Debuchy down the flank while Negredo made a parallel run in the centre. Dzeko nutmegged Debuchy while Negredo outran Mwanga- Mbiwa. Edin steered the ball across the six yard box and Alf promptly put it in the back of the net.
This would have come back to MP's mind after the injury to Aguero on december 14 with Jovetic still unavailable.
Since then he tried the pair in tandem at Craven Cottage but it didn't work that day.
Persevering at Ewood Park, he saw Negredo score from Dzeko's header . What's more, the pair were narrowly thwarted of a brilliant strike when Dzeko's pinpoint twenty yard through ball found Negredo. Alf turned Hanley in an instant but Spurr raced across with a perfectly timed interception, blasting the ball out for a corner just as Negredo was about to pull the trigger.
What followed was west ham, a hattrick for Alf, a brace for Edin with Edin' s assist for Alf's second goal and his part in Alf's third .
How wise was MP to disregard the cliches of lazy journalists and persist with the pair until the smiles and high fives all round let anyone with an open mind and eyes to see catch on to what his analysis had told him.

Oh i like this. Great post[/quote]
That's actually an amazing post. Great memory and observation.

Indeed

They've got better and better together and dzeko has regained his form.

I reckon Pellegrini will start them again on Saturday with Sergio on the bench. There's no point rushing Sergio back and it would seem unfair to drop either of the existing two on current form. Whilst Sergio is always first choice on ability, I think Pellegrini is the type to show loyalty to edin given his upturn in form.

I actually wouldn't mind Sergio on the bench as this partnership is looking better and better every time they play.

It's not so much that they've proven anyone wrong. Most of what was said was exactly right. Up to and including Blackburn away they didn't work well together for even five minutes of any game they played together.

It's been three games in the last week where they've turned it around but they hadn't shown signs before last Wednesday that they were ever going to.

I'm glad they've finally got things working well because we needed them to for when our superstar is ever out again in the future. This Edin is an Edin i want to remain at City, the sulky work-shy one from most of the last eighteen months previous is one i never want to see again.

I am bloody glad Kun is back though.
