Eastlands and the surrounding area today.

TBH, City Street won't take long to put up. The structures will probably be put together off site and just lifted in place and bolted down. The halo will probably be the same. The new banners and other City related chnages outside the stadium can be done just as quickly.

I'm affraid we're at that time of the year when everything grinds to a halt, apart from cricket, tennis, golf and of course the world cup. Just wait until after the world cup and when we get into July. BANG!

Obviously I would love to hear some news on the proposed training complex, stadium expansion or the leisure destination, but I expect a long wait before we get an officail announcement on any of those proposals.

Well it makes a change from the tedious posts about Maine Road and how you can still smell the dog sh*t down the back alleys as you get there.

Firstly excuse me for starting a new topic on this. I tried to find the original but couldn't? This really is for the benefit of people who don't live close to the stadium and can't get here to visit during the summer for various reasons. This afternoon as I only live 20 mins away I decided to pop over by myself and have a snoop around and report back any findings or points of interest.

Approaching the stadium from the City centre and walking past the City at Home building round the back of the Colin Bell Stand towards the club shop nothing at all has changed or looks any different. Behind the North Stand and looking onto Joe Mercer Way again nothing has changed. I walked down JMW and back up again (quite strange really as I was the only person there) and there is absolutely nothing happening at all. I don't know what or when the so called City Street is due to start or what it will contain? (a load of official trade selling huts I should imagine) but if it's to be ready for the start of the season don't be expecting something out of the ordinary because there wasn't a person to be seen. The only interesting note was the tram link seems to be taking place quite nicely and one of the ground workers explained that there will be access ramps from the platform either side of Joe Mercer Way - the hardcore is already in place and from a distance you can sort of work out how its going to look.

Around the back of the East Stand the land that was going to be used for the casino is fenced off (as has already been previously mentioned on here) I pushed through and had a look and again nothing going on - possibly some ground testing has been done previously but nobody about now. Nothing to tell on that score either.

The only bit of work outside was at the main entrance at the back of the East Stand. This had been ring fenced off and a small trench has been dug in the ground from the frontdoors outward. I can only assume its a drainage related issue but again nothing exciting. A couple of Hi-Viz vests were mooching about near one of the turnstyles but that was about it.

So to sum it up, there really at present isn't anything going on at all and its pretty much as you were. Sorry if this is a bit of a letdown but with some of the absolute horse shit I see written on here I thought it best to give a true account of the situation. Infact if anything on a damp Manchester afternoon the Stadium was actually looking a little tired and bland. Hope this helps those who won't actually see Eastlands again till August.

This is what a quality contribution to bluemoon looks like.

Nothing dramatic to report, but interesting and written with a bit of effort and in a very readable style.

Thanks.

I was at CoMS the other day.

The tram link seems to be coming nicely. We're looking at 1-3 stations nearby? The nearest appearing to be a 5 minute walk away up the canal.

There is a stop at Joe Mercer Way. I was there today and one of the fellas explained that the access ramps would lead up either side. You don't have to walk up (or down the canal) it will stop right by the ground.

Arrhhhhhhhhhhh thats not suppose to happen! If you're working on the line you're not suppose to talk to the public, we do work on the line development at the stations (all the glass and stainless steelwork etc) and it's a "red card offence" to speak to the public. You're supposed to say "for further information you can look on the boards and get the web address" notthing more nothing less. But I must say you're right there is a stop there and another 2mins down the hill just at Holt town and another 2mins further down from that on Pollard St, so three within 5mins walk of the ground. But for further infomation you can look at one of the boards and get the web address ;0)

not my fault! said:

My fault I'm afraid. I dragged him away from his Flask and Jam Sandwich for five minutes.
