Ebola Outbreak

Why has it taken the death of an American for it to be to be taken seriously , should have been better organised weeks ago

Because death of an American was in America!

I get the feeling that the west wouldn't give a shit if this was just an African problem and guaranteed to stay there. When has the west ever really given a shit about what happens over there?

It's funny how we don't like tyrants and dictators running Middle eastern countries yet African countries have been run by people like this for years with zero intervention. Wonder why.......

Very true the virus has been killing on and off in Africa for decades.

are they mad !! send our army , our defenders, to an area of the world under threat of plague !!
and when they return ,import said plague into the uk !!!
has china, australia, peru sent any troops to help ?? why always us ?????

The usual little Englander uninformed response.
I suggest troops are the least useful personnel to send.

In AUGUST the Chinese sent teams of virologists.
Cuba have sent medics and other help.
In fact loads of countries have responded with real help before us.

Do a bit if research before sounding off about poor us.

Troops are the most useful, remember they will be medically trained.

A Spanish nurse has tested positive for Ebola in Madrid, scary

Caught it treating that old fucking priest that they flew back to Spain. They said there was little or no risk flying infected people in from Africa, well what a surprise they were talking bollocks.

Why do you refer to the priest like that? That's very dismissive.

A mate of mine, City fan who I've been to a few matches with, is in the army and is being sent over. He's a medic, so I'm guessing most the army personnel being sent over are medics, logistics types who can give immediate and much needed help.

Thing is, they're fully trained and are basically just waiting for the next war to kick off before their services are put to the test. Same with a lot of the armed forces who get sent to help with the aftermath of natural disasters etc. You have highly, highly trained people prepared for war, but if an incident occurs where you can provide manpower at short notice and in vast quantities, that's where the armed forces come in handy.

He's obviously not over the moon to be sent off to look after ebola patients, but it is what it is.

Just as we are part of that groups of nations who are willing to send in troops to battle to help other nations, we're willing to send in troops to help in humanitarian situations. It's just what we do. We're a superpower, and we have the power to help so we're sending people to help.

I just hope they all come back safe and get a medal for their efforts.

Not routinely.
The one interviewed last night was shown receiving bio hazard suit training prior to going.

Anyway it was the self pitying belief that we alone were offering help when we're are coming quite late to the party that pissed me off most.

The perfect storm for 50 or so wannabe terrorists to become intentionally infected and spread it throughout the world.
