When the opposition have a penalty, I am resigned to them scoring even before they take it. Ederson's not got the longest reach but he's as tall as Willy, with specialist penalty coaching I am sure he can improve.
He's a far better keeper than both, but I always fancied Bravo or Caballero to save a pen, even Hart before them, like you I'm pretty much resigned to any pens ending up in the back of the net now.

Agreed, definitely wouldn't swap him as a keeper, Ederson's distribution is the best I have ever seen and he gives the defence such confidence when we are pressed, but I am concerned like others about penalties.

Having a great season and is a top lad and vital to how we play. Love him.

If we as a team stopped giving daft penalties away then there would be no concern.
I think most refs have a different standard when giving our opposition penalties against us, than the standard for awarding us.
Also either Ederson or Steffen may will have to face penalty shootouts in the cups? I am not optimistic for Ederson ATM, don't know about Steffen?
Edit: just looked up Steffen's record saving penalties is about three times better than Ederson's, 37% as opposed to 13%! Maybe we should bring him on for a cl penalty shootout? Like Chelsea were going to do with Caballero against us, until Kepa refused! I assume Steffen will likely be keeper in the domestic cups.

Had a dream last night we were in a shootout in the final and Ederson saved the first 4 penalties and we won 2-0. Sterling missed our first if you're wondering.

Saving penalties is a skill, Ederson really needs to work on.

Ederson has saved 6 penalties in his career, he has failed to save 39, a 13% penalty save percentage.
Alisson has saved 9, he has failed to save 16, a 36% penalty save percentage.
Willy Caballero has 11 penalty saves, he has failed to save 22, a 33% penalty save percentage.
Henderson has 8 penalty saves, he has failed to save 11, that's a 42% penalty save percentage.

There is a much greater likelihood of cup penalty shootouts as we enter the business end of the season, we need to improve penalties, saves and conversions before then.
Yep. I even started this very thread back in September with a concern about his penalty saving (or lack of it). He barely even gets close to them. He’s having a very good season, but there’s absolutely no argument against him being below average at saving penalties.

Has anyone seen a video of the pass he made in the first minute?

It was the perfect tone-setter for the game, Monchengladbach came out all guns blazing with man to man pressing on our entire midfield and defence, and Ederson just looked up and pinged a 40 yard pass out to the RW, and you could almost see BM's players sink. They had a plan to press him and less than 1 minute in they realised it was absolutely futile.
