Ederson (defensive midfielder Atalanta)

I'd still want us to get him for a simple reason.

He improves the squad with his defensive work rate and plays simply.

He doesn't offer much of an offensive threat, but that isn't required, and there simply aren't any other better options that we can realistically get.

Now he may also not be realistic, but some reports are coming out that make it seem like he may be attainable.

I still thought it was baffling. The team that beat PSG should of played in that final. To not have Fern or Rodders in that final was crazy and I reckon 99% of City supporters thought the same.
My heart sank when the line-ups were announced. From that moment I switched off & my mind drifted through the game.

I've done such an effective job of erasing that painful night from my memory bank, I can barely remember the match details, aside from Chelsea's goal & KDB going off injured.

That loss was 100% on Pep.

I never have a go at Pep but that night I was well pissed off.

Rodri was better than Dinho since day first
Nah. Fernandiho came to a team that had Toure in midfield and a team that immediately won the title in his first season, so that's where that impression comes from. Rodri came to the worst Pep's Man City (just as bad as City this season), he had Otamendi and Garcia behind him in defense, that's where the negative opinion about Rodri comes from.

These comments are proper bobbins...

The impression Fernandinho did very well comes from the fact that in his first season he fixed all our defensive issues immediately pretty much by himself, he also masked the fact that our full backs were deteriorating quickly just because of how out-fucking-standing he was from day one.
His defensive work in just his first season gave Yaya Toure the creative freedom to have the greatest individual season, that any attacking box to box midfielder has ever had in the Prem statistically across the board.

It's absolute nonsense to suggest that Fernandinho might've actually been lucky to be in a team full of stars already, especially after you consider the fact that in 2013 we were so piss poor defending our first title of the Prem era.
Fernandinho was the enabler in our team for the likes of Merlin Yaya Nasri and others to express themselves, truth be told he probably papered over some major cracks with how incredible he was immediately.

Rodri might be our best defensive midfielder ever but he needed some time to adjust to the Prem and there's no shame in that, there's no need for revisionism here when it comes to his start here just because of what he's since achieved, it's still part of his incredible career so far and a big part of what actually makes Rodri so great.

Fernandinho was phenomenal and his performances were world class from the off, he's always been extremely underrated we've been blessed to have both Fernandinho and now Rodri.
Because they both genuinely make someone like Nigel De Jong a very good defensive midfielder himself, look a lot closer to Steve Lomas's average level rather than close to any of those two.

I'm not belittling NDJ here that's just how great Fernandinho and Rodri have been for us but unlike Rodri, Fernandinho made an instant impact to our team the type that very few players in football do.
There's usually a settling in period but there certainly wasn't with him maybe it was the cold harsh winters of Ukraine, to go with his speed aggression and hard as nails approach but Fernandinho was instantly brilliant.

Agree with every word. I'd love NDJ in this team right now as well thoug never mind Ferna and Rodri.

Without Fernandinho, we wouldn’t have a few of the titles we have now. He was unreal in that first season he signed for us. I thought at the time who the fuck was this 28 year old Brazilian that I’ve never heard of. Turned out to be one of our best ever signings. Didn’t he pay some of his own money for the transfer fee?

Waived his loyalty bonus (about £4 million) I think to make the move

Think they are pretty well run, dont think they are short of cash. Turned a profit pretty solidly for years. Maybe though
They are not short of cash, and them signing players doesn't necessarily mean they will sell. But they are a selling club that usually cash in and reinvest on new talents, which is a major reason to why they are showing profit each year.

Unless we have done a lot of work under the radar there simply isn’t time to make a major signing in the time we have left. Luiz on loan is probably our only realistic hope of a signing. If we had something bigger and better in the pipeline I suspect it would have leaked by now.
