Don't for one minute think we didn't pay full value. It's just that I read somewhere ( I think something to do with Bruno Andrade) that the release clause was set at 60 million euros. Unless of course, it was just a random figure off the top of his head, I don't know.
Not every release clause gets met. Benfica are a selling club, that's their business model. They don't throw a huff and start throwing shit in the press and refusing to negotiate, they set a price. We obviously met the price.

It's a sell on fee owed to Rio Ave.

yep its for image rights or something like that but again i don't like 3rd party and like tevez the owner or (agent) after we signed him still have a very big say and was always in the background and i think the mancini vs tevez walk out was the reason the agent just kept getting involved

No, it's a sell-on fee to his former club, when Benfica signed him, part of the deal they negotiated was that Rio would get a percentage of any future sale. City have done exactly the same with Denis Suarez among others in the past.

That's fair enough, but wouldn't the third party owners have a say in any outcome,or just the fact that everyone is happy with the price. It just seems a big drop from 60M to 40M.

No, they wouldn't, as it was a sell on clause. As for the release, they're mandatory in Spain and Portugal so are set far higher than the club ever envisage selling the player for. They bought Ederson for €500k + a 50% sell on, probably thought he'd turn into a €20m keeper so they set a €60m buyout to make sure they kept in control of the transfer. If they thought he was going to be worth €60m, the buyout would have been €100m. Make sense?
