Ederson Moraes

Ederson as number 1, Gunn as number 2. Probably unlikely, I think Bravo will stay another year and then go, hopefully then Gunn steps up to be number 2 and rotate in for certain cup competitions and hopefully challenge Ederson (or whoever it is) going forward.

I am not so sure Neuer went for cheaper. Neuer's transfer was coppled with success premiums for all championships and winning the CL. And Schalke profited a lot from the treble etc.

This reckons €33m total and that would have required multiple Champions League wins, if we take that as true it's probably fair to say he went for the same price or a little cheaper than Buffon, although at the time Buffon was signed the transfer fee was a lot fucking bigger in comparison, which is why it's still standing.

They got money for every Bundesliga win since then - not just the CL title. For five years... I do not know how much it really was at the end but he was a lot higher than the actual fee. But - who cares - he for sure is worth it.

Neuer cost Bayern 22m euros and he had a few more caps playing for Germany (you could say with the tragic death of Enke and Adler's injury he got his break with the national team in 2010) while at Schalke before he made the switch and was the more experienced keeper (Neuer was 25) . Benfica are looking for double that and he is only just broken through to their first team with no caps to his name. Rulli is at the similar stage to Ederson and will cost City less money (albeit for only one more season).

Rulli might be cheap but he is not as good though.

He was definitely cheap anyway :)

Benfica president, Luis Filipe Vieira: "Ederson is not for sale. We own 50% of his rights and Rio Ave have the rest. We are just fine."

Unfortunately, no one will believe that because it's well known they need to raise over €100m from player sales this season.

If Rio Ave are getting 50% of any transfer fee they may look to unload their other players over Ederson though. The likes of Semedo, Lindelof & Grimaldo have been linked away for big money and if they managed to get that €100m from those players they may have no need to sell. Just a possibility, but hopefully that's not the case.

Rio Ave own 50%, they're not entitled to 50% of any fee. We could buy Rio Ave's amount seperately, then offer them £X million for Benfica's 50%.

In a co-ownership each club is entitled to 50% of the players value. Wouldn't Benfica need to buy the other share of the contract before selling on?

No, not at all.

It would be perfectly possible for me to buy 50% from Rio Ave for a completely different price, there is no connection other than we need to own 100% before we register him.

This is exactly what happened with the mangala deal. We paid £24m for 60%, and when that was discovered lazy journalists did the maths and worked out it came to £42m for 100%.

What actually happened is that we negotiated the sale of different pieces from different parties for differing amounts, totalling £32m.

If Rio Ave wanted to they could sell 50% to us for £1, that doesn't mean Benfica have to sell their half for £1.

Ah I see. Was under the impression that they were both entitled to the same fee, cheers for clarifying.

This is also why one of Neymar's co-owners are suing him, because Barcelona paid them much less than a corresponding amount % wise of his total, but they're having no luck so far in court.

This deal will be telling where our relationship with Jorge Mendes lies, as he is Ederson's agent and he has control over whether Rio Ave will sell the 50% to Benfica or us. Rio Ave is not a wealthy club so they will be happy with whatever million they get.

Benfica doesn't have that strong of a negotiating position in this IMO, they did their best by renewing his contract recently.

It is a little bit misleading to say that Rio Ave own 50% of him. Co-ownership is not allowed any more. What is apparent though is that they negotiated a 50% sell on fee when selling him though so from Benfica's perspective, it is accurate to say Rio still owns half of him. In this case, I don't believe we'd be able to negotiate the deals separately as the fee will simply be cut in half to each entity.

Worth a thread of its own.
Mendes and Raiola have been restocking United and lining their own pockets since Jose arrived at the other place.
We know that this pair of serpents will change tack in a heartbeat if the money is right.

Next international break and now he's got his first call up. His price will look like a steal once he solidifies that position for Brazil since Roma use Alisson as a cup keeper. Also surprised it hasn't been mentioned in here that he recently started following City on Instagram.
