Did anyone put in a performance that might have caught Pellegrini's eye?

no they were all too busy being shocking
Haha.

I just thought conceeding 2 away goals to a team who was 18th in the league when we are 3rd was a bit surprising considering this was a final and we were at home.

We got the win in the end a fair play to the lads but we have a task on our hands if they score first in the second leg with them having two away goals.

We don't even know if the away goals rule counts in this competition, all they had to do is draw away and they win the cup which isn't a tall order. They've put themselves in a great position by getting the late goal.

Thought the lads did well to battle back but what an awfull start they had.

I thought Fofana completely changed the game what a talent he is, can ping the ball with both feet and hes got a belting shot on him. I also love the way he gets the ball and bulldozes through much like Yaya.

I thought Leigh had a decent game till he went off aswell as his replacement Angelino. Facey, Ntcham both did well.

Thought it was a poor game from Lopes and Bytiqi but I guess it was just an off night for them as both are superb talents.

Good to see we have got them playing exactly like the first team, the corners are just as fucking shite!

Glendon did some good stuff, but that doesn't excuse the amount of bad stuff & lack of cover he was guilty of. Doesn't mean he can't play, just that he had a stinker, as did Jason Denayer.

I think that Pellegini would have learned that Cole & Lopez are progressing & could benefit from first team experience , Leigh looks a potentially solid left back who might be close to the physicality of the Prem as a fullback but Denayer & Facey are not ready to stand up to it as centre backs , Angelino looks a potentially exciting attacking left back who is probably too small to be promoted up at the moment but may be a star one day. Fofana looks very close & should probably be with the first team pre season, possibly Olivier Ntcham too. Jordi got no service after the first 5 mins but still created a goal, which is a big plus point for him.

Aaron Kuhl
Captain - 2nd Year Scholar

Centre midfielder who defends well and can also get forward. Aaron is the son of Youth Development Coach Martin Kuhl and joined the club in 2008. He made his breakthrough in 2011/12 when he made his debut for the under-18s in the final match against Birmingham. Though only a first year scholar, Aaron was captain of the under-18s during the 2012/13 season in which the side reached the Barclays Premier League final. Still Academy skipper, Aaron now also regularly features for our under-21s team.

Date of Birth: 30/01/1996

I'm hearing this lad was MOTM last night? bossed midfield apparently?

I didn't go but,for those that did,is he worth keeping an eye on?

I doubt there will be the away goal factor - I can't find any clarification anywhere but I would suspect it doesn't come into effect in this competition. Possibly it follows the League Cup format whereby away goals come into it in extra time. We were caught out on the counter but controlled the game really, if we keep concentration in the second leg it should be fine. A lot of fight and determination in that side. The transition over the last few years has been exceptional.

Fantastic player, easily the best player on the pitch.

Fantastic player, easily the best player on the pitch.

Was he the lad who was providing the pinpoint 50/60 yard cross-field passes? Very impressed with him if so.

Seeing as our more experienced first team has struggled at times with the finer detail of playing a high defensive line I guess we shouldn't be surprised that the U21 back line looked lost - for the first 30 minutes at least. Any ball beyond the high line and we were struggling, they had a quick strong target man to aim at and he caused us problems all night.

As others have said I thought Drury was our best player, just a pity that Bytyqi had a bit of a 'mare with his crosses as they combined well down our right side. On the left we seem to have replicated the first team situation, one solid defensive LB in Leigh and a very dangerous crosser in Angelino. Fofana also made a big impact when he came on, not afraid to run at defenders and shoot.

All in all a very enjoyable 90 minutes, I can't wait for the Minihad to open, I'll be able to get to a lot more of these games.

Kuhl was the one with the Valderama head.

They couldn't cope with their centre forward if the ball came in the air, on his chest, or in behind. They are just not used to facing players with that kind of power & athleticism. Something they would face every week in the Premier League. That's the next step they have to take, if they are to become proper 1st team prospects.
