I'm not worried about the long term future of our reserves and academy due to the huge investment and the appointments of Ferran and Txiki, but questions need be asked about what's happened over the last couple of years. I mean we have Guidetti and Boyata playing in the EDS. Guidetti was one of Feynood's top strikers last year, playing in front of 40k and now he finds himself playing for our reserves in front of 40 people. He's far too good for this! It's so evident when you watch the EDS games he is a cut above. How have city let a talent like this stagnate on our reserves? If Mancini wasn't going to use him, which is fair enough as I'm not sure he's ready to step up to our first team level yet, then he needs to be on loan at a decent club getting first team experience.

Same with Boyata, another decent player rotting in the reserves.

I hope we see a big change in our reserve/academy policy over the next few years so our young players aren't wasted.

Anyway I'm not an expert in these matters but I would be interested in hearing the opinion of the fans that frequently attend our EDS games. How do you evaluate our current youth policy?

Just as a matter of interest which EDS games have you watched this season where Guidetti has been a cut above?

Honestly, I've only watched the highlights of the recent games so I hold my hands up if I'm in the wrong. From what I've seen, and from what I know of Guiudetti, I think he is much further advanced in his development than any other player in the EDS. In terms of potential, maybe there are a few players that could go on to become better players. For example I like the look of Suraez and Lopes. But I just think for where Guidetti is at in his development, he's wasted in the EDS.

Guidetti is playing himself back to full fitness after long term illness, hardly "rotting in the reserves". We have some talented lads in the EDS some of who go on loan, like Boyata, Helan & Warbarra. Others occasionally make it into the first team squad, like Razak, Rekik, Lopes and Evans. From what I have seen its quite a good standard of league the EDS play in, and like the Premier League, we are the team everyone now wants to beat.

As you say you are not an expert.

In what way mate? Just my observation, I'm not claiming to be an expert on our system, and I'm interested to hear the opinion of fellow fans who will know a lot more than me on the subject. But no one can claim the EDS or academy have done particularly well over the last couple of seasons. And I think my observation on Guidetti is fair.

I've probably gone with a sensationalist headline mind, I'm drunk though so sorry!

-- Fri Apr 05, 2013 12:40 am --

Fair point. But do you not think Guidetti would develop better at a club where he's getting first team experience like last season though? Surely you can't claim now he's back to full fitness he's better placed in the EDS than somewhere like Feynoord?

I Can see why people will see it like this but Guidetti is coming back from an Illness, as great as the heights he once reached, when your body says no you have to recover in the right way and The EDS for me is the right way.

I've watched a few EDS games myself this season (at Hyde) and the standard is exceptional.

The other teams seem to raise their games, almost like the boys want to prove they are better than the scouted city boys.

I've been impressed alot by the likes of Suarez and if it was down to me he'd be playing instead of Nasri... but I'm no pro-manager so wtf do I know?

I think Guidetti might get a run out in the first team before the seasons over. What happens to him and the other promising players will very much depend on our summer transfer activity and their own development. Basically, if they're good enough they'll make it.

I'll explain........

The fact the lad had a potentially career threatening illness and is currently performing a detailed and tailored rehab programme that our club medics/physios obviously, being an approximate 10m commodity, wish to oversee.

Yet you make a thread calling this a shambles........
