Why did the Spanish league do that, knowing their two top teams were likely to get that far in the champions league why put them up against each other the weekend inbetween the semis? As it turned out it affected them both and instead of having two Spanish teams in the final they now have none.

Surely players put in the same effort whoever they're playing ?
Makes no difference if it's against a rival or a mid table side surely?

Both Barca and Madrid would have put weakened sides in the midweek game had they not been playing each other.

It clearly affected both teams in the semis. Madrid especially looked very tired against Bayern.

Thread title is worthy of a Frankie.

Couldn't play weakened sides if they needed the points in the title race though surely ?

Convinced Real would have gone through if not for El Clasico, their entire team seemed physically shot in the 2nd half and their brilliant counterattacking was non-existent as no one had the legs. Not sure on Barca but they would have had a much better chance too. The Spanish FA fooked their money makers over big time.

Idiotic decision by Spanish FA to not postpone that match.

Maybe Barcelona was not hit with it too much, though certainly is to some degree but RM definitely had. It was clear in first match that they didn't go with full strength keeping themselves for Barca, and in second they couldn't go full when they wanted.

Imagine City and Rags playing Monday derby in between 2 CL semifinals.
