Elano's tough week has also taken its toll. Some fans booed the decision to bring him off 15 minutes from time against West Brom, but Hughes explained: "He was struggling, and he's sat with ice packs all over his body now."
from city website.

Was i the only one who new he couldnt last today? He ran his socks off, played class, chased back and needed a rest,

so no idea why numpties where singing you don know what your doin, yes fernandes is shit but come on lads hey we were playin fuckin york city about 10 years ago, we just bin 1/4 uefa cup - weed bite your hands off for that last few yrs!!!

The mob is baying for blood, they want their victim hung drawn and quartered publicly, when they don't get it, they agitate!

I said you could see him hobbling whan the ball was away from him, in another thread, some people must have a shit view of the game.......or perhaps they like to believe the worst.
I noticed today he gave Robinho a bit of an ear bashing over not running for the ball when it was passed to him,the lad has turned the corner & we now have the REAL Elano back.

The chants were aimed at Hughes' clueless tactics. Fernandes isn't good enough yet and may never be so to go from having our best player on to having him on isnt going to please. Its a fact - yes he puts in effort and all but fernandes isnt composed, secure and all together good enough to replace elano.

We've got Elano back! "the cream of manchester!"

He has been magnificent for us over the past 2 games...couldn't have given any more. Nice to see his leadership qualities coming through..there seemed to be a split seconf of of debate today over who was to take the pen, but he was having none of it, stepped up and delivered...potential legend!

Exactly. For the impact of midweek football, see Fergie's team against Everton and the pedestrian Chelsea v Arsenal semi

Whether he asked to or not he was knackered and we were losing ( had lost ) midfield so getting some legs on sounds right to me and we went on to win 4.2 so good substitution for me.

It was a must win game, so the fans were rightly worried, not that I would ever do that myself. Hughes was right to sub him this time.

I would say he was man of the match, but he certainly put in a performance and he was up there within the top 3. I thought Ireland would have shaded it. By the way we are becoming far to dependent on him

It was a good sub as he was struggling to mark his full back and we were under the cosh.

Liverpool regularly take Steve Gerrard off to be replaced by lesser players like Lucas.

Problem is 'cos Fergis Little Helper has not played hardly played Elano since xmas (or so it seems) he's played 2 hard games ijn 2/3 days and is fucked.

If Hughes had played him on a more regular basis he could have lasted Thursday and possibly today as well.

We ended up with 3 DM's on the pitch when in front against WBA at home. FFS

Hughes could make any substitution and the Hughes Out lot will moan. They're just looking for any reason to have a pop. They'd rather boo Hughes than cheer the team on. There were a few sat near me on Thursday when the team was putting in a good performance and were clearly responding to the good support but they still heckled Hughes.

Elano was knackered and Gelson was brought on to shore things up a bit and put more pressure on the ball. We had been giving West Brom far too much time on the ball in midfield and this was causing us problems. Fernandes is good at closing down quickly. It was a sensible substitution

Quite right; also interesting the Times journo sees it exactly that way and is bemused at City fans reaction to the substitution, which he says was clearly necessary: but lots of fans are pretty clueless, and know nothing about tactics, trying to close a game out when players are knackered etc.. When we were winning One Nil at home under Sven, he was a tactical genious for replacing Petrov with Garrido or Ball near the end of the game.
