Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a set of electric drums. I have a slightly restrictive budget (wouldn't want to spend too much more than £300 if possible). I'm pretty musical and play a range of instruments but I feel the drums are the only thing I have little to no knowledge of, so I'd like to learn.

The whole purpose of buying electric ones is to reduce the noise by wearing headphones in an attempt to stop the parents going mental.

Any advice on what to buy? Where to look? Any that are particularly good for not making a racket?

Would appreciate any help because I've looked online and there's too much choice, I don't know where to start.

Do you know of any music/drum stores local to you?

As a drummer myself, imo that would be you're best bet.

I'm staying with my dad at the moment and I don't know the area, but when I go back Stockport/Manchester way in a few weeks I could drop into somewhere around there.

So you'd say it's best not to take a punt at buying one on the back of internet reviews and go and try some out properly first?

Cheers for the reply.

No worries.

Yeah i would, if you're looking into starting to play then you need something you will be comfortable with. Not as simple as just buying a kit and learning, thankfully i was taught by my dad who plays.

If it's a new thing you're into, then go to a store and basically just explain the situation. You'll find something that's comfortable and happy with, everyone is different. A drum kit isn't just a drum kit.

Before i buy i've always had a good search around stores. Had a jam on a few kits, then made a decision. It's definitely not something you want to rush into, good luck!

most drummers i know are a few spanners short of a full tool kit so being a member of BM is a good start.i taught myself the guitar to a reasonable level but get me behind a drum kit and im clueless.i reckon its getting the legs and hands to multitask is what tips them over the edge.

We just got a electric drum kit from PMT music on Regent Road, for £279. Think the brand is Pro Sounds. They're on sale at the moment. Sturdy peice of kit with a full frame. Sounds good through a PA system so imagine it's sound even better if used with headphones.

There's a shop called RedDog at the bottom of the Grassmarket that's is pretty good, I'd guess they will have some in. GuitarGuitar might have some in the shop as well. If you can wait until you get back to Manchester PMT on Regent Road always have quite a few in a range of prices in stock they always give really good advice and won't rip you off.

This just came on my weekly guitarguitar email. Looks like a good deal.

Plenty of decent drum stores online tbf, I bought a Yamaha DTXpress IV & love it. Added a few extras & set up a drum room in my house.

They're the cheapest I can see in Dawsons, but then again, Dawsons can be terribly overpriced.

Your best bet is just taking a look about round the local music shops and that.

I'd suggest Roland drums, but they're quite expensive!

Good luck in finding some anyway mate.

I looked at the Alesis DM6 when buying mine. I'd do your research op & use forums specific to drumming to see what other drummers thing of the kit. I ended up going Yamaha but my Accoustic kit is Yamaha too. As mentioned Roland make the most realistic sounding kits but a decent kit will cost £800+ any less & there are better ones for the same price.
