The 30mil we were desperate to spunk on JFE would pay this lads wages for 3or4 years. I’d get him 100%.I've never really looked closely at Can until a Dipper at work mentioned him. I never realised he was only 23 & he's actually a very good footballer.
He can play either CDM or CB with ease & his versatility would certainly provide us with options. I saw him play for Germany a couple of times & he was superb.
Surely Can on a free should have been worth the punt?

Player who's refusing to sign a new contract at Liverpool is suddenly "not good enough" for Klopp? The usual dipper coping strategies there me thinks.According to Macca, reliable Dipper ITK, he is not good enough for Klopp, so can't see why he should be good enough for us, even if Pep develops players to much higher levels.
Another good reason.
It seems weird we're standing by & passing up this opportunity. However I trust in Pep's judgement above my own & who knows, he could have had a cast iron informal agreement already sewn up with Juve, so pursuing him wasn't worth the bother.

I honestly think Can could have rotated between CDM & CB, so would have seen plenty of football. If he does indeed end up at Juve, they'll have themselves an excellent, young, international class CDM/CB for free.Or maybe the player does indeed have his heart set on Juve, who have been chasing him for a while?
I have no doubt we would have been interested in signing him on a free, but that doesn't automatically mean we can get the player. He has a greater chance of starting in Juve, whereas he'd very much be used as a rotation/utility option here.
[Insert random dipper youth midfielder] is better anyway.Player who's refusing to sign a new contract at Liverpool is suddenly "not good enough" for Klopp? The usual dipper coping strategies there me thinks.
