Err why dump society's scrotes on the British Army? It isn't the army's problem, they have their own challenges and shouldn't be wasting time training idiots who don't want to be there.

I just think the kind of kids that were rioting - usually on benefits might get a different perspective if they had the rigid discipline the armed forces provide and the team spirit. It just might turn them into something better? Any ex soldiers on here with a view point on national service? I'd like to hear it!

No it won't it will probably make they're lives a whole lot worse- increasing their risk of mental health issues and probably their dependence on drugs. Because people that don't want to be in the army don't usually respond well to being forced into it. Whilst some may have already applied and been rejected on medical, psychiatric, or behavioural grounds. This is not bad lads army, this is real life FFS!

I've never been in the forces, but the standard response is 'why do we want them?'. If I was in some dusty shit-hole being shot at, I'd want to know my colleague is a highly trained, motivated individual, not some junkie scumbag plucked of James Turner Street.
