'We tried something different'

FT: England 1-2 Greece

England boss Lee Carsley on ITV: "We were second best for a lot of tonight, it is disappointing. You are going to get set backs and it's important we respond.

"We tried something different and tried to overload the midfield. We tried it for 20 minutes yesterday, we experimented, and disappointed it didn't come off. It's unrealistic to expect too much and we will have to try again. All the goals were from mistakes, which is disappointing.

"It is definitely an option going forward. When you have someone of Kane's quality though it rules it out when he is available. But in the future you have to have the courage and ability to try things.

"We tried something different. It doesn't change anything. My remit is to do the three camps."
Why’s it unrealistic to expect something against Greece?

At least tonight proved a few things. You can't play 5 attack minded players without having proper defenders behind them. Rice doesn't see himself as a DM anymore as Partey plays that position for his club. Lewis & Alexander-Arnold both would rather be anywhere else but full-back. No cohesion going forward caused a lot of the time by players that want to be the glory boy.

I actually lol'd when Greece scored their 2nd as it meant no headlines for Blingham.

What does he see himself as? A footballer? Certainly a very limited one.

was all going to be the land of milk and honey when Southgate ‘f*cked’ off , yet here we are - same old slagging of the tactics, formations, individual players to blame.
Southgate was never the problem.
It’s international football, it will always be like this.

Carsley is a clone of waistcoat and doesn’t put these prima donnas in their place. Bellingham and Trent are just big egos and not team players and that team selection was incredibly naive

His selection had a look of trying to please the media. Pickford, Trent, Plodder, Saka, Bellend, Gordon and Palmer were all definitely going to be included. Johnny Boulders walked into the team as the only decent centre back. Harry Hotspur comes into the team next match and lets see who's omitted. Hopefully Phil and Rico.
Mind you, Saka has to be released from the intensive care unit first.
