When City pass around the back, you feel like there’s a build up happening. You can see where we are trying to get to, how we’re moving them about.

England pass around at the back because most of the players are shit scared of being on the ball if there’s an opponent within 10 metres of them. It’s our comfort zone back there. We pass there because we’re scared to play with any personality. Then when we get bored of that we do the classic English lump down the channel, lose it and retreat into our block. It’s turgid.
