On the back of the dropped points, I just thought I would add going into the NY that I am enjoying this new team.

Haaland - The greatest striker
Donnarumma - The greatest GK
Phil - Better than last season and showing glimpses.
Doku - Proved me wrong
Cherki - The player I want to see play the most

Last season it was so slow at times, but this season we are far from the finished product, but we are a lot closer then we where.

Our football is more interesting. We drift from underperforming to amazing over 90 minutes in a lot of games. Our back four continually amazes me... on paper it shouldn't work, but it does.
The general standard of the PL this season is low enough for us to virtually walk into the top 4 regardless of restructuring/transition etc.
It's competitive without being particularly challenging. It's going to be great winning the quadruple this season!

I’m just amazed Pep has turned us into contenders again this quickly considering how wrecked we looked last season. Actually enjoying this season more than I have in many a season. It seems less stressful as the underdog, and it still feels like we could win a trophy or two. I’m pretty excited about next season and how we might look then once everyone has jelled and there’s a couple of quality new faces.

Is it pep, or is it just better players and less injuries and Haaland having a worldie first 15 games?

I agree this is an enjoyable season. So sick of all the new fans who have are complaining and whining. You are so entitled it is not normal for your team to win the league every year. You should force them to watch every minute under Pearce or let them watch our two matches against Wycombe in the 98/99 season.

I like the progress being made with lots of new exciting players and different tactics which is also refreshing.

Doku love his unpredictable play
Cherki just being maverick
DonnaKebab having a keeper that stops 1v1
O’Reilly and Gvardiol attacking output from the left
Nunes transforming into Optimus Prime on the right
Return of Rodri
Nico’s emergence
Khush old school defending and pace

Potential new exciting signings Anderson, Semenyo and Guehi

Doku is 23 and has improved steadily since he joined. Not the finished article by any means and needs to keep improving, but I for one am excited by watching him play and develop further.

If we can keep them all fit, the Rodri-Foden-Cherki-Doku axis could be one of the best and most exiting we've ever had.

Nobody mentioned the leadership/ influence Ruben as on the team
Bernardo leads by example.
Ruben is our true Captain and back in form on the pitch too.
To me those two are weak spots in the team

Dias has improved greatly and his leadership qualities are excellent. I would just want a more dominant physical leader like prime van Dick or Vinny K.

Silva has been tremendous for us for so many years. However I feel he is on his last legs and the weakness in the center of the park. He could still do job as utility man from the bench but would love to get a Wharton, Anderson eve Kova there at the moment.

Pep and the players probably see a much greater benefit than me of those two :-)

…much more than last season!

For me, we’ve got the keeper, the defence and the goal scorer… it just feels like there’s something missing in midfield.

I suppose when you go from Fernandinho-Yaya-DSilva to Fernandinho-DSilva-DeBruyne to Rodri-Gündoğan-DeBruyne, we’ve been spoilt for about a dozen years, so the drop off to Nico-Reijnders-Foden with an ageing BSilva in the mix, while not shit by any means, they’re competent players for a top PL team, but feels like absolute elite quality isn’t there.

Saw it with Rodri the other night. Not seen a midfielder perform at that level for City since the 2023-24 season. His 45-minute substitute appearance made me feel like he sticks out like a sort thumb amongst our current midfielders, when in years gone by we had three players at that level all in the midfield at once. Christ, at one point we had all of Fernandinho-Rodri-DSilva-Gǔndoğan-DeBruyne-BSilva who weren’t far off winning a treble in 2020-21 (if Pep had actually picked more of them in the CL final we would have done)… absolutely ridiculous midfield, must be the best collection of midfielders ever seen in football!

If we can get Rodri back playing, fit and firing, and with the signing of Semenyo (with him and Doku either side of Haaland), maybe we could have a midfield three of Rodri-Foden-Cherki and get back to those sort of levels. But it’s a big unknown what Rodri is going to be like coming back from his injuries.

But, yes, enjoying this season much more than last season.

It was great watching the Rodri cameo at Sunderland. That’s the level we have been missing in midfield. Nico alongside Rodri would be unbreakable against the big teams I think. I hope Rodri can come back fully.
