So FFP doesn't apply seemingly to Chelsea
It does apply, and that’s why they are offering 7.5 and 8.5 year contracts, because FFP applies and this allows them to effectively halve the annual cost in comparison to a standard contract length. So they can in theory spend double what a team offering 4 year deals can. But the downside is they are paying these deals off for twice as long. They counter that by buying young, gifted players, presumably with the thought process of heavily reducing spending after this initial investment phase. It might work for them in terms of success on the pitch, or it might not. But what they’re unlikely to do is fail FFP as their contract strategy shows they are not ignoring it.

The new owner not giving a shit about ffp or what the media think.

Whereas we seem to have become the net spend champions, I think in part as a response to the criticism.

I think it will fuck Chelsea in the long run.
It will if the players they don’t want stick around on their fat contracts like Danny Drinkwater, with the likes of Havertz becoming a major issue if they’re not involved, Potter is used to small harmonious squads and bringing one or two youth players through, this just isn’t him and I’d wager he’s gone in the summer, it’s an amazing gamble when you think about it, this time next year they’d of probably spent close to a billion, with a bloated squad and no CL football, and a load of players on 8 year contracts

I doubt Chelsea have done due diligence on all of these players like we do considering they were bought in a short space of time. Can’t wait for 3yrs down the line when they’re stuck with 6-8 players that aren’t good enough /suited to the pace of the EPL & stuck paying sky high wages forever more.

fernandez, nkuku, mudryk look like top quality signings. Sterling will be on the sidelines stinking the place out. Plus they need to replace their center backs in a year or two.

Chelsea's approach smacks a little of desperation. Having said that if teams can spend more or less what they want at present we should have tried to get some bodies in ourselves.

Badashile, fofana, colwill, chalobah, koulibaly prob enough. James and cucurella can both play wide CB in a three.
