Enzo Maresca

I still dont understand why its reported that City are talking to Chelsea to sign him as manager.
He quit Chelsea months ago isn't employed by them. I dont get what Chelsea have to do with this
There are quite a few reports that say that as part of his mutual termination agreement, Chelsea retained the right to financial compensation from his next club (any club, not just City), given he still had 3.5 years left.

Why he would have agreed to that, who knows. Maybe he wanted out so bad, maybe his payout hinged on it. Maybe he thought or knew our club would pay it, having approached him knowing the length of his contract left.

It has been reported for some time, and at the very least he would have known about it. So wouldn't have come as a surprise to the club. It may even be possible it is our club that has found a loophole, and this isn't a case of chelsea delaying it. Who knows.

What's clear is (from Khaldoon's interview of nothing else, never mind the reports) that they are comfortable with it, it has been a long time coming, and will happen when it needs to.

Reminder, this time 10 and 13 years ago, we were still 3 weeks away from appointing Pep and 1 week away from appointing Pellegrini at this point in the summer. I don't remember people asking what's taking so long.

Imagine working somewhere and earning enough money that after 10 years you can say... 'fuck it' and take a couple of years off until you feel refreshed.

Instead we are forced to get up and goto work until we're 70 and so burnt out that we will never recover from it in those last couple of damaged years.
There’s a thought that if you do work that you really love it’s not work at all. I saw a podcast once between John Cleese and Stephen Fry, both of which loved what they did and had no intention of stopping for retirement. Of course they can work at their own pace unlike Pep who is full on all the time.

Yeah but I'm bored of waiting now. Time to save ourselves the compo and just give it to BM till the end of next season. Work out a rota from the Match thread regulars and we're sorted.

Do we have to pay compensation for any backroom staff he had at Chelsea, too?
I would say it’s possible but it’s all down to the individual contracts.

Clubs should be protecting themselves so can’t be paying millions to one club to get someone’s services only for that person to walk out a few months later. Technically it’s the individual who will have to pay back the money as there’s no contract between the old and new club, but the individual will just say to the new club that they will have to pay the money if they really want their services. City will have known this.

not ideal this delay- can we tell new signings who is the manager if this thing is not settled? like can we guarantee it will be Maresca?
sometimes managers have a chat with targets, like Wirtz said Slot's plan to use him made his mind up choosing them. worked out shit hahaha. but still...

can Maresca have a phone call with Anderson?

The contract situation seems unclear. If he left , gardening leave or not then as per normal
Jobs the contract would end. He would have it noted how long before he could get another job too.
If they terminated his contract and paid him for the rest of it and then they suspect the City job was always a potential then that seems it may be a reason to ask for compensation.
Can only speculate.

Yep

The speculation about the deal he had with Chelsea would be the case, but we don't know how it was terminated or if they had a clause about whether the Manchester City job would be offered to him.

But as I said, the compensation should not be taking so long to sort out because if City was after a manager still in a job, we would have paid up straight away.

Maybe Chelsea wants a clause about their players not going to City if we want any of them ? But again, you can not stop a player from moving because of the freedom of contract rules

Couldn't he just tell Chelsea he's changed his mind and return to work tomorrow?

Then he could go to see the CEO first thing, twat him and have a shit on his desk so thereby get the sack for gross misconduct?

No pay out from them and he could just walk into City and no compo needed (well apart from the cleaning bill for the desk)

Just a thought, oh and I am bored in work........................
