No, we are almost unable to defend it, with our current team, we are on the edge. When Fernandinho is out, we usually concede one or two free headers as it is. Same if Fern is a bit off it for any period, we struggle.

I think we will end up having to replace Fernandinho with another player who is good in the air.

It's not just the free headers which are a problem, it's 2nd balls won because the ball isn't cleared properly & the nervousness caused to the defence, & encouragement given to the opposition, when they see we have a weakness.

Then we end up making other mistakes & the oppo kill us with balls into the box. It even happens to us now for short spells, even when we are battering teams, it's not something to be blasé about, we have to respect the defensive aspect of the game imo & not weaken that area.

If it works & then it fixes the job, then fine.

But right now, he is less competent in that aspect, than any of our other young cbs who have come through in the past.

Would be a terrible shame if we spent two years putting everything into making a cb out of Garcia, only to find he gets his arse handed to him by run of the mill cfs, when perhaps he could have been Fernandinho MKII if we'd had a plan B as backup for him.

Luckily we have a very strong base on which to make that possible.
