Eric Garcia to Barcelona

He left for a nice contract at a very young age and probably thought he had a better chance to progress at City.
Any Spanish guy who comes to live in Manchester has my utmost respect for, the difference in culture, lifestyle and particularly climate must be incredibly difficult.
The opportunity to return to Barca for Garcia was always a big possibility and I would not blame him at all if he wanted to return IF he gets the chance.

I echo this. The setup at City has been designed to make it as smooth as possible so potentially we'll see more occurrences of this sort of situation: some we'll be happy to move on with best wishes (Kelechi, Brahim Diaz) some we might have to reluctantly let go (Sane, potentially Garcia). If the club is making a tidy profit and producing top players then good things will grow from it. Fair play to the players, we shouldn't expect them to have some kind of undying loyalty; would we in the same position have the same loyalty to Dortmund, Villarreal, Monaco?

Why wouldn't you want that imbalance to continue? It's in your favour for it to. If La Liga shares revenue fairly as they do here, more clubs become attractive to investors and more competitive due to funds available. That means the league is harder and Barca and Real will have a tougher challenge in winnint it nearly every year. Do you want that?!

Same reason I do not advocate the 1% model in politics/economics, that sort of imbalance is unhealthy and kills competition - soon, irrelevant

I miss the days of a strong Valencia, Deportivo, Villarreal etc - Sevilla has a great tradition as well and it's commonly accepted that the depth of talent in the country is immense. Competition brings out better football, not hegemony

Exactly and we can't expect every kid who plays for us to be the club of his dreams.

Clear Pep & City have made the player feel important and expressed their trust in his future but similarly City & Pep also know that if the will of the player is to return to his home club there is little they can/will do to stop it. Domenech pointed out his desire to return is predicated on Barca showing an interest in his return - if they do not, he will stay of course. Perhaps Pep, like Luis Martin or Adrian Sanchez, does not have confidence this board prioritize his return - we'll see as I have my doubts as well
So if he stays at City, it’s only because Barca didn’t want him anyway? Ha, jog on Spanish rag.

Unlikely, particularly when you consider you got him for free and was fully developed by Barcelona - hence why the player has rebuffed a contract extension, knowing full well the club will not pay a big fee for him. City have invested 3 years, Barcelona a decade. Naive to think otherwise.

He’s going nowhere
Barca are a basket case they can’t help press the self destruct button with the in fighting and now financially in the mire This is why Ferran Tiki and Pep are here, in the Barca of the north Biggest mistake Messi made is not coming here with Pep to prove he could do it in the toughest league in the world

I don't think Eric will leave anytime soon, he's got Pep's trust and respect through his performances, even with new CBs coming in that means a lot. I hope he extends and if one day in a few years etc he wants to go back to La Liga, he would with my blessing. Not every player is going to stay 10/15 years.

the way @FCBarca is talking. It's almost like every player La Masia produces is a Robot with an Internal compas/ Need to come home when Cantenara Catalans calls.

Like seriously... If your parents call, you will return home. Everyone knows this.

But Eric Garcia is an intelligent boy. He is not some brainwashed sleeper agent that is at the whim of Barca...

why is that so hard to comprehend??

He left Barca 3 years ago... for a very specific, specific reason. and 3 years later, that very reason has gotten worse, way worse.

@FCBarca are you seriously saying that if Barca called Eric Garcia to come back home for a January transfer in December 2017( 4 months after he signed for us) Then Eric would just up and follow orders like a good Cantenara Catalan??

There is a reason why Juan Larios is leaving Barcelona to come join us, despite bieng offered to be Alba's successor & bieng one of the best earners of La Masia. The Spanish entourage(players/staff) at Man City is extremely big.

We are the Manchester Catalans, Barca are now just the parody version.

Irrelevant to you perhaps but pertinent to the topic since this is not Barca's first rodeo with former La Masia players trying to make the pilgrimmage back to the club. They will not overpay for players they developed much less left via the backdoor (Which is what was considered in Eric's case) - those cantera players need to assert themselves for a return and absolutely will not pay normal market fees.

No its irrelevant in all free market trade -seller sets a price buyer decides whether he wants to pay it or not - negotiation takes place if needed. If Barca doesnt cough up the money that city are happy with (if Garcia wants to leave) then we dont have to sell. Garcia and Barca can wait till his contract runs down

Nope. Barca is quite unique in this regard, I know of no other big club that has the same pull from cantera players. In particular, Pep (ditto for Txiki) would never prevent much less complicate a cantera player's return if he wanted it

I wasnt talking about Cantera players - I was talking about this is nothing special in terms of players from other parts of the world - you are acting like this doesnt happen in other areas as well - it does ndis jsut as special to those players.

Gerrard staying at liverpool all his career despite other clubs wanting him - why - cause he is a scouser
Kane at spurs
Messi at Barca
John Terry at Chelsea

Not sure what prediction you believe I am making

Im talking about you predicting something that just cause the Barca board want something to happen it will - your club is in a financial and political mess (huge debt)

There's a detente between City & Barca atm, not sure who negotiated it but they play nicely for the most part of late. And as I said, because of the key people involved (Txiki, Pep & Eric) there is no chance it would descend into anything unprofessional. If the board want the player back, he will be returning - I have no doubt as I trust Domenech, he has never lied in the media with respect to transfers (Esp. involving cantera players as he was one once too). The question really is whether the player was playing Oriol (Which I doubt) or if the board will prioritise him (I also doubt)

Interesting that you site the city board as being professional - thank you. - they are because they are employees of far more powerful and professional people as well (HHH the Sheik and Khaldoon) - these people do not suffer fools at all -any hint of inpropriaty and they would be gone (including Pep and Txixi) -notice how confident Soriano was that we would be found innocent by CAS - there is no way Txixi et al wold risk being in proper (hence why we conduct our transfer business with such integrity as well) as it would directly reflect on some very very powerful people. Its a shame that other clubs do not follow this way of working however -the game in general would have a lot more integrity to it do you think? Have you eer noticed Khaldoon refuses to talk about other players from other clubs even when asked directly? Something to learn there I suggest.

I want it to happen but I think there are so many other transfer variables & priorities that board will give only the illusion of pursuit as Oso said on twitter

nice get out clause incase it doesnt happen - maybe it wont happen cause Barca wont pay the money and we as a club wont budge - equally just as possible. Also equally possible that the player doesnt want to move right now

the only point you make which is valid that of course a player wants to play for his hometown club - like all players do at some point (Aguero has always said he wants to back to his for instance at some point - its the romantic part of the game which no one can deny

Barca are also going to have to get use to not getting their own way even more over the next few years. Once Messi finishes playing (best player in the world for me no doubt) that pull will be gone as well (and its a strong one for a lot of players I have no doubt). Financially you are in a mess so so I suggest you get to use to a more even playing field both on and off it over the next 5-6 years.
