Erling Haaland signs 9.5 year new contract!

We have had absolute world-class players, but not someone with a genuine star factor like Haaland. He is in the Ronaldo/Messi tier in terms of young kids worshipping him and following him around, social media presence and just transcending-the-sport level of celebrity.

The likes of De Bruyne and Aguero is legends for us but never reached that level of fame, and I suspect never wanted to. But Haaland has simply just had that factor since he shook the world at Salzburg and financially it is a gold-mine

Put it this way, very few english clubs has ever had a superstar-for-their-time like Haaland is currently. Henry for Arsenal maybe, Ronaldo and Beckham for United. Not even sure Salah reaches that point, despite his influence in arabic speaking countries. It isn't a slight on other players, it doesn't even mean that he is the best. But he prints money and fame
This! This will fill the new NS and some...

Not really a massive fan of such a long contract but it needs to be put into context. This is a 24 year old Haaland at a club facing possible penalties cooked up by the cartel. So what's not to like ;-)
I'm sure City know what they are doing.

By no means I'm complaining.

I'm objectively trying to understand what our reasoning for offering him that long contract as we never did anything like that before.
So you are struggling to grasp why city have tied the best striker and biggest superstar in world football to a deal that keeps him at the club for pretty much the rest of his career.

Walk round the stadium look in the pop up shops the shirts for sale are KDB and Haaland
We have supporters who come to the ground just to see Erling
Makes massive sense to tie him down
Stops the Madrid noise and constant speculation allows both the club and Haaland to concentrate on other things

There's no guarantee he'll see out the contract of course but as a statement of intent and a 'hands off' to other clubs it makes perfect sense.
