after the summer we've had I am really not sure why people are overconfident in saying things like "surely we have X done" or "surely they wouldnt have sold him without Y".

we said the exact same thing about not letting aguero leave without a replacement and it turns out they had nothing settled at any point and were sort of hoping that Levy would lower his price by 50m, the entire summer. I don't see why suddenly they'd have already have things settled and only then let torres go.

The problem will be Madrid.
They're getting Mappe on a free and had a bid of 160 million turned down last summer. They must still have that money available and could easily outbid us. We won't go near that kind of money for anyone I suspect. Although why pay that if he has a release clause? Will it be a case of gazumping wins the day?
Sadly, I suspect you are right.

Pay the money. We offer the best football, the best manager - it comes down to finances. If we match the best offer (or beat it), he’s ours.
I agree that based solely on football reasons we are currently the most attractive option but lifestyle is also a big factor. If he has his heart set on living in Madrid then it'll be hard to persuade him to come here.

I really hope we get him though, it could make us almost untouchable domestically.

I'd love for this to be the transfer we go Billy Big Bollocks on for once.

I know folk will say he has to want to come here but instead of the "romance" of being the sole club a player wants to join, chuck the kitchen sink at him and seduce the ****.
And announce a deal is done on New Years Day, even if he’s not joining until the summer!!

It shouldn't have to come down to money. Haaland should want to be at City because it's the best club not because we offered more, we left that in the last decade. Players now join City because of the club, not the size of the salary.

He needs to tell Raiola and Alf that he wants City and that's it. None of this posturing bollocks

You mean, convince him that he only wants to come here?

Like I said, we offer the best football and the best manager. If we beat the offer and make it known, then fair fucks - he’s made his bed and we did all we could.
I wonder if strikers don’t particularly want to play for Pep? He doesn’t sign many.

How many number 9s has Pep bought in his managerial career?

I actually think, push comes to shove, I’d sacrifice one of my toes to have one season of Pep, KDB, Foden and Haaland.

Nearly every game would be an absolute blood bath for the opposition.
My God!….
I'd sacrifice all my toe nails. For a year

And the clowns pissed and moaned that we didn’t replace Vincent Kompany with Johnny Evans or some other available dross, until we waited 6 months and signed Dias and he made us the best team in Europe.

Unlike several of our rivals our transfer strategy is coherent and successful in the long term.

TBH I dont think City would get this deal done with all the numbers involved even if there was no competition. City have consistently walked away from bidding war situations in recent seasons. Van Dijk, Maguire, Sanchez and many more so when madrid offer him 600k are we gonna offer him 650? It's not how we do business since about 2018. There was no competition for Kane but City were still unwilling to go to the kind of numbers, 150/160, that might have made Levy think twice. Just don't buy modern City have the capacity to do this kind of deal. Release clause makes it slightly more likely. But we won't want to pay Raiola 50 mil thats for sure, as well as Alfie and the rest.

Bit of a party pooper lol, but just getting it on the record.

It is! I agree. it's a good strategy to just wait and see, as things stand.

which is why I don't understand why people think there's 5D chess going on and a striker is about to sign next week.

We will pay what it takes, we won't be dragged into a bidding war. These are two different things.
