Erling Haaland

Haaland is a player that excites me. He just plunders goals at any standard game after game. He doesn't play for a particularly good side, and he's the obvious threat in their side and still he cannot be stopped.

Would he sign for City? I think a problem maybe finances because Man Utd and other top clubs would offer more money. This has been a factor in our transfer activity in recent years.

Name a player who we've bought who was regarded as the best in the world in his position at the time of purchase.
Not a player, but: Pep Guardiola. Same ambition needed. And Haaland isn’t regarded as the best striker in the world. But he’s right for us

Same ambition, has always been needed. It starts with the best coach. Having the best coach means you don’t always need the best players in their position. So it could mean Haaland, but it doesn’t mean not getting Haaland is the end of the world either.
Having the best coach means the team adapts, just like it’s adapted this season. I be very happy to get Haaland hope we do f that’s our choice but it isn’t the be all and end all for me, and probably isn’t for the club either. As long as we have the best coach and a very good squad we’ll be successful.

I just think with Aguero leaving, and after over a year of not having a real goal scoring beast, I think he deserves to have that kind of player. He said so earlier this week, that he would love to have on the team a player like Messi, Cristiano, Neymar or Mbappe, that can decide a game. He is owed that kind of investment and I think his contract extension was linked with a promise of that nature. So if it’s not Haaland, it will be a Kane or Lukaku, which will cost almost just as much, but because of age would not be as smart an investment. There is no way that our board will end up signing a striker that isn’t a name that everyone in football knows by name, like Lukaku, Haaland or Kane. It won’t be like the striker from a mid-tier French team with a lot of promise or something like that. We are replacing our biggest star. Sergio deserves to be replaced bigly and Pep deserves that top player. So many people here every day waste a lot of time trying to convince others and themselves that Haaland won’t happen, and it sometimes seems to me that our rivals and the media talking trash about how we spend too much money to win (bullshit) has gotten to their head.

I would also like to remember that apparently Pep’s contract extension is not literally two years, but one year with the possibility of another year. The board and him really want the Champions League. We could win it this year, but we are yet again contending with a similar squad. If it doesn’t happen, and they really want it for next year, someone needs to come in to get it done next year. And Haaland is UCL proven— a beast

If it isn't Haaland doubt it will be Lukaku, and am pretty certain it won't be Kane, more likely somebody completely different that hardly anyone has thought of.

Apparently 1 year not 2? pretty sure that's not true. The board want champions league this year or next is the nonsense the media put about. Yes they want it, but it isn't any condition to win it as long as we progress. They know it will come at some point.

Point is if we get Haaland great and I think there is a fair chance we will. But all this Haaland all or nothing and if we don't get Haaland we can't win champions league or carry on being successful and winning the premier league is just complete nonsense.

Name a forward that's more coveted than him now. The usual suspects are reaching the end of their career or at least past their best. Getting Pep is a different matter. The background work was already in place. All he needed was free reign to carry out his work.

I would read “Confidential” and “The Evolution” in that order
both books have arrived :).

ive started reading confidential , touching on the reason we spoke regarding the books was my idea of a pep forward(if i remember correctly) now im only up to approx the 4/5th chapter, Bayern haven't yet played Dortmund in the supercup or whatever they call it, but peps thoughts of who can play that forward position is ribery, a player who can play right across the front, this only cements my idea of our next forward being ferran torres, a player who can play right across the front , this is only my gut feeling having watched torres, i said at the start of the season during torres first few games for us he has something about him,

as i say ive only just started reading confidential and my take on it could turn out completely wrong, however what i can take from the book so far is, pep is a way better coach than i even thought, and i thought he was the best.

thanks for your insight into the books, and im really looking forward to reading both "twice" then maybe i can get a deeper understanding of peps methods and ideas, you sound like you have a good idea on peps ways and methods, and hopefully we will take different things from the books and revisit them.
hope all that makes sense, had a rough night last night, and my head is a bit fuzzy :)

My take from the books were he thinks deeply about everything and whatever is thrown at him is always capable of thinking it through and coming up with a solution, no matter how outside the box it is. So yes he can use and get the best from a traditional striker. However he can also use somebody completely untraditional too. Have you got to the bit where he thinks of using Messi as the false 9 and rings him in the night saying Lionel I've got an idea?
So yes he could use Haaland and may well like and want Haaland. That doesnt mean his alternative would be another Haaland like player it could be something non of us have considered, and yes it is just as likely to be Torres or another false 9 as it is a Lukaku. Think as well if it was a more versatile type of forward it would give Delap opportunities when a traditional striker is required.
As I say I'm comfortable with whoever we buy, simply because Pep will find a way of making the it work and the players and THE TEAM better.

One of their highest tier sources saying they want Haaland this window and Mbappe the next. Madrid rarely misses on their targets let’s be honest
It’s not a source, it’s a mouthpiece from their propaganda paper in Madrid. There is zero reason to believe anything a guy like this says and the same way in Barcelona there are similar guys that you can flat out ignore as they are just replicating crap or making it up. Again, if they want Mbappe now, what they would want out is the message that they DON’T want him now.

For once I would love our fans to behave like we can sit on the same table as any other club to compete for a player. We have the money, the status and the coach to do so. What’s lacking is that mentality in some fans

just got up to the messi phone call , sneaky fucker :), people dont really think things through when they call pep "fraudiola" or he cant coach teams who are shit, his way of thinking requires very intelligent footballers, that's why i think he got rid of sane , maybe he just didn't take onboard peps ways or couldnt, pep used to go mad at sane and imo it was all to do with his positioning, something you grasp very quickly into the book.

Pep even had a go at Henry for his positioning when he scored :). Yes no matter how good, if you want to play for Pep you have to show that intelligence, no matter how talented. That's why I think you are right about Torres. He'll have a far better carreer with us than Sane would have done. Sane had the false 9 skills but probably not the discipline it requires. The same discipline Pep mentioned Foden hasn't quite yet learnt when he played it last week , think Foden will though.
