Yeah you see I don’t think you are going to get that much “banter” with your last paragraph and general attitude. No need for you to go into how clever you are.

I don’t claim to be clever, but you and I don’t need to be geniuses to know that football’s full of secrets that never get told.
Those old enough will remember that football clubs were heavily bought into in the late 60’s early 70’s when UK higher tax rates were up to and above 90% and buying and selling players was an obvious and easy way of both moving money abroad, to avoid tax, and laundering money to make it useable.
Football has been under close scrutiny by the tax authorities ever since but prosecutions have been few and far between because, contrary to some claims on here, the business people in football are very good at keeping quiet about what needs to be kept quiet.
If me knowing something so obvious to all makes me sound like I’m being clever then I must assure you that’s not the case.
And if me sounding a bit shirty when I’ve had a couple of heroes pile in to try to make out that I’ve said things I haven’t said then, fair enough, I’m guilty as charged and I apologise to anyone mortally wounded by a few somewhat sarcastic tongue in cheek responses.

And I’m not having a pop at you either CWCat, I actually like a lot of your writings and consider you a wordsmith of note in most matters.

I really don’t think you are going to like the transfer forum. Could I recommend The Matchday Forum perhaps?

There is another level of insanity over there. At least, people seem to revel in the silliness in these threads.

I didn't realise we were debating me, even if it became personal.

Simply the wrong assertion that information at the top doesn't get out.
It doesn't even need to be at the top for player transfers. If I'm an estate agent in the posher bit of Gorton and last summer someone came looking for a nice 2 up 2 down for their secret client and then Grealish moved in to it, when the same bloke was back this year looking for something on the same street for another secret client, I could probably guess there's a footballer moving in.

You could do the same with schools for some players; places at Manchester University for the partners of some etc. My mum's next door neighbour's daughter (honestly) was a City fan and worked for a company that did a lot of graphic design work for City. Would she know about a transfer this early, of course not, could she know a week before it was announced, possibly. Can't ask about Haaland though, as my mum's been dead 5 years...
