Sure, thete have been players who have taken time to settle but who has actually been a bad signing.

So not many in the last 5 years, by and large the club gets it right.

I think we agree insomuch as we both recognise that he’s a magnificent athlete who could bring something special but that his physicality means that he can’t play in the manner that our players do in our system so that we’d need to change our system to accommodate him.

However, the fact remains that we couldn’t have played like we did last night with Haaland in the side and if he saw the game he’d have known he wouldn’t slot in because he’s too big a unit to run his bollox off pressing the opposition then hold the ball in tiny spaces using nimble 1 and 2 touch passes when we have it.

I seem to remember Yaya had pretty good 1 and 2 touch passes for a big guy ;)

This all boils down to an ignorant view that tall players can’t press. It’s ridiculous. I have already posted multiple analysis in this thread of how excellent his pressing is.
If you listen to the times Pep has spoken about him, his “size” is something he spoke about with excitement

And how effectively did Sergio press? Not great but he was amazing... an absolute legend. The best striker in the history of of the club.

Yaya was fantastic, I loved the way he’d charge half the length of the pitch shrugging defenders off then just hoof it into the net.
He was a big strong fast unit, good with his feet but, due to his size, not nimble enough to play the tippy tippy round the box that we play nowadays.
That’s what got me thinking that if we did get Haaland he’d do well in that big strong deep midfielder role that Yaya played.
Less need to press, size & strength to hold the ball up in midfield, speed aplenty to charge into space on the counter and he could amble up top to use his height and guile at the set pieces.
So many similarities, he even has a difficult agent like Yaya did!
IMO it would be a role that suited his skill set but allowed our high press and possession play.

Think he’d want to play striker though.
