Erling Haaland

I can't believe we're still talking about United's debt and pretending it effects them in the transfer window nearly 20 years after the Glazers takeover.

They have spent £1,180m gross in the last 7 years. Yes they can afford to buy Haaland and a CB.

(Just because it's funny to remember - that gross spend has returned them 1 Fa Cup, 1 League Cup, 1 Community Shield and 1 Europa League)

They can get someone stupid enough to part with £20m each for Jones and Lingard this summer.

Rojo is off the wage bill, Romero out.

They have 12-month optional extensions for Mata and Bailly, so can be in a position to ask fees for both.

I can see Dalot remaining at Milan and Pogba will be moved out.

United will raise at least £150m this summer in sales.

Just preparing for reality. The day Kun goes will be the true end of an era. I have never felt 'loss' before where football is concerned, but I was genuinely hurt when Silva left. Not because he left us, but because it was the latest in that era of players leaving the club. Same with Aguero when he goes. It's the end of all that. But the only way to move on is prepare for the new lot of players who build on the last decade of success for the next one.

You must have a heart of stone then?

When Vinny did his mic drop and said 'I'm out', that and Zabba send-offs were real moments in time.

I think we've missed our chance with haaland. He's now in a position where he can command wages in excess of what we're paying our highest earners. When the likes of him, neymar, mbappe etc get mentioned, we're not going to be in the mix for them.

You are @Ashleymcduff and I claim my £5 ;)

No way would he be on KdB money (for one).

not sure i care who the replacement is as long as the replacement fits into the team and we carry on doing the business, for what its worth i don't think we are in for him.

with the way we are playing i can see us going for a nippy technical player, something like an attacking midfielder or a deep forward, not an out and out striker.

Haaland has all those abilities though, he’s a great passer of the ball coming from deep and is technically excellent.

Look at our transfer activity over the last 10 years. We buy the players that are just outside what the "experts" regard as the best/most valuable player in the world for their position. Guardiola's coaching has elevated some players into that status though.

I agree Tolm but most of them will be last days of the window, City have to be quick & no fucking penny pinching

If Haaland or Mbappa are off we would no now imo

Financial UTD are still borrowing this years finance recordings will be more than the disaster last year

Utd will be paying £70m for a CH easy I then recon Pogba money will be spent on Grealish maybe & not a CF while they have Cavani, Martial & Rashford

There's clubs that would pay him more than KDB gets. Do you think he should accept less just because of his dad's connection to City? Doesn't work like that.
Where did I claim that?

He's not going to go from (a claimed) £100,00 a week to KdB money with anyone on his next transfer, that would leave any club with absolutely nowhere to go in renegotiations and would seriously piss off an entire playing staff. He's just 20 years old after all.

Cheaper than what exactly? He'll be going in the summer of 2022 if not before and it'll be for a relatively low buy out clause. Given present circumstances I can't see how he'll still be there after this summer. As long as Dortmund are happy with whatever fee is offered (by whichever club can manage it, which limits his options) he'll leave to a club of his choice.

You do know Haaland has a buyout clause by the next summer after this? All this talk of Haaland and the likelihood of him leaving this coming summer is mostly driven by that. Dortmund can let him go for 100m+ this summer, or keep him and he leaves for 60m to any club that activates it.

Yes I'm aware of the release clause, they'll still have a figure in mind that they want for him and will go to great lengths to achieve it. COVID wont change that IMO. Dortmund could give Daniel Levy a run for his money in the thrifty stakes. United thought they'd get Sancho for the price United wanted and in the end Dortmund said "Nah we'd rather keep him". I think they are prepared to lose out short term, so clubs are less inclined to haggle too much long term, in other transfers(a sort of strategy). They seem to be a well run club and I don't think they are one of the clubs that will be struggling with debts and they'll still be getting a big fee for Haaland whatever happens. They are in a pretty good position and are used to situations like this.

In my opinion if they get the figure they want this summer he will leave, if not, he could just as easily sign an extension in the summer with a statement from Dortmund "He's staying, part of our future" etc and then they raise the release clause. It all depends on his relationship with Dortmund. As I understand it, it's not just the first club who triggers the release clause either, the player has to agree too. So even if no extension is signed, that will probably still end up just being a minimum fee to get the bidding war going.

I'm not looking to fall out with anyone over this, I just don't think it will be as simple as some are making out. It will be a massive coup if we sign him.

Think a lot will come down to the Sancho situation too. I can’t see that Dortmund would want or need to sell both.
They may see what offers come in and take into account other factors
like the players attitudes, sell on clauses, Sancho getting to the last 2 years of his contract.
Lots of things need to align on the players, Dortmunds and our side for it to happen. They might well happen but nothing is certain.

I'll be surprised if Covid doesn't affect it, Dortmund like everybody (even us) are smarting.

If the stories are true then Haaland is on €115 thousand a week for the first 2 years and then on €154 thousand a week for the remaining 2 years. If he was to extend they'd have to raise his wages a fair chunk. Could they afford to pay it, and without upsetting the rest of the team?

The release clause only has to be met to allow a team to talk to the player, there's no advantage in paying more to Dortmund unless Haaland feels he owes it to them. Any fee over the clause would go to him as a signing on fee. It could be a bidding war next year but it would be between the teams bidding and Haaland, not Dortmund. Hopefully it's not just about money to him, in which case I think we have a great shout.
