Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

Cheers for that mate. I think they will have problems filling a 55k capacity stadium every week, especially if they go down. From what I can tell, their support (both numbers wise and atmosphere wise) has been galvanised by Bielsa's arrival and when he goes they could have a problem and might struggle to regularly fill a 37k capacity ER, let alone a 55k one. That said, even if he goes and they go down I don't see a drop-off in attendances to the numbers they were getting in many of those seasons pre-Bielsa and would expect their crowds to hold up reasonably well.

On that last bit, it sounds like they have similar issues with atmosphere and early leavers that we do. On a decent day, they're very good but if they're bailing out of games in the numbers they did at that Brentford game in their first season back in the PL with fans in attendance, then maybe the novelty is wearing off quicker than expected. SSS (Second Season Syndrome) probably isn't helping of course. It's also worth remembering that when Stoke came up in 2008, they were getting loads of plaudits for creating a loud and intimidating atmosphere. And they were certainly loud on our visit there for an early Saturday kick-off in January 2009. Fast forward a few years though and they wanted rid of Pulis, the atmosphere took a significant nosedive, and while there was a brief pick-up under Hughes their atmosphere went to shit again. They're doing quite well in the Championship these days but I see footage of their games and their ground is never anywhere near full, unlike those early Premier League seasons.
FWIW, Leeds had a couple of hundred tickets left to sell yesterday. It may well have sold out this morning. The affects of Covid and a Christmas shopping day helps to make aspirations of a 55k calcify ground look a tad ambitious.

Mancunians questioning why Mancunian residents leave early I suppose is fair game. But, as a Mancunian, who happens to live in Leicester, every game is an away game for me. We also do most of the "real" aways. I never leave early from any weekend matches but night games I'm away 10mins from the end, in the vain hope to be home for 1am.

Don't underestimate how many long distance fans we have, there's more than you'd think.

Hopefully, for the early leaver police, a 200 mile round trip is a valid reason. If not, I would kindly ask you to fuck off.
There are a lot of people who do that, and that’s fair enough. But youre talking like the Mancunian fans have a short trip home and are tucked up in bed by 23:00…

A lot of local fans (me included) often stay out around Town drinking for midweek games and also don’t get back home until after 01:00, well after the Mets have stopped running, sometimes flagging taxis down in the early hours. And I get up for work at 06:30.

I just go to bed earlier the night before and the night after.

Quite a few empties at elland rd tonight
I think isolating is catching up with many clubs. Chelsea failed to get close to capacity the other night, must have been 34,000 there out of 41,500. Imagine if we had that crowd for a league game in our ground?

Liverpool were alright but there’s probably 1000’s of people from anywhere else other than Merseyside ready to take tickets if people cannot go.

My mate is a Stoke seasoncard holder so I sometimes tag along with him when City aren't playing. I've been to the opening game of the season a few times now and it's always been somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3rds full. The ground is dead for swathes of the game, outsung by the away fans. I've no judgement against that, it's like that in most English grounds most of the time, but I think a lot of City fans only experience away grounds as City fans when, by default, for a lot of clubs we are now the attraction and will be the best atmosphere in the ground outside of any derbies they have and maybe Liverpool, United and Chelsea.

Spent a foggy day in Morecambe watching Fleetwood yesterday. In the toilets of the away end their were stickers from various lower division firms. One caught my eye though it had a picture of Ken Barlow from Coronation St. It said you've been Barlowed and a rags devil symbol. Anyone know what the fucks that's about ?
