A couple of Seasons of large doses of mind numbing slow sideways passing can't have helped.
Don't agree at all Waspish. The 'Emptihad' nonsense is a blessing in a way because it detracts from our real shortcoming which is a piss-poor atmosphere. Thank god for our singing sections because otherwise it would be a library.
On the whole the games are boring. Not Pep's tactics, not our players, but the opposition not contributing anything to a game and it's just City passing the ball around one half of the pitch nearly all game. It's not exciting stuff whatsoever. One thing that has been overlooked a little bit since yesterday is that oftentimes it's the football that dictates the crowd, more than the crowd can dictate the football IMO.
The second half against Arsenal (which I'll maintain was about the best half of footy we've played this season) the stadium was rocking. The players were up for it and so were the crowd because you couldn't help but get into it.
Opposing teams make it difficult with the 11 behind the ball tactics at the Etihad, it's tough for both the team and the crowd to get any momentum going in games like this and the way we have to play (side to side, probing for an opening) is hardly get on your feet and chant footy unfortunately.
What's the solution? Opposing teams grow a pair of balls and come at us ;)
The Bernabau is dead as a door nail mate..
I think there must be a problem if Pep if lambasting our atmosphere, having managed at the Nou Camp, where you can literally hear a pin drop for most of the game. Whether it is the long standing 'acoustics' problem, the expectation or apathy, I'm not sure.
I think there are issues that while not responsible, don't help. Those being heavy handed stewarding in 'atmospheric' areas, infrastructure from getting away from the ground is terrible, adding to the early leaver problem, and finally, the seemingly constant shuffling of the stadium and its long-term fans in order to increase hospitality and match day spend.
Obviously the higher ups want big revenue to fund the club, and the management want atmosphere - we don't seem to be able to have both, but the club IMO has some big decisions to make regarding how it treats its fanbase, and who it wants filling up the stadium.
I can't help but think that some proper, sat down discussion could do with taking place between a fan-led board and the club itself.
Does anyone feel we dont sing many songs these days that 'day trippers' can join in with? Im in 115 and on Monday there was a lot of the new Edin song, MANCITY song etc. It seems some of our classics like invisible man, Zaba song, best team in the land and all the world, were not really here, la la la laaaaaa City!!!!! just hardly get sung any more. Doing the Poznan which people always loved joining in with. Just things to try and bring up the atmosphere in other parts of the ground other than relying on just certain sections.
Im presuming its a new one, only really heard last 2 games. Goes something like -New Edin Song, I must have missed that.... do tell??
