I think it was renegotiated and is circa £3-4m now.
I think that's correct, the original arrangement was based on attendance over Maine Road's so with the plans to expand (and naming rights) we renegotiated the flat fee.

And we will never buy it as it would not benefit the Council so they won't agree to sell, the upside is that we can do what we want with it anyway. Any Blue who is bothered by 'council house' jibes is far too sensitive, if that's the best they can come up with then we've won.

They might rethink if tonights attendance is anything to go by.

Just checked your post history and you're definitely a rag.

Noticed it in the tickets thread for BM & Celtic yesterday tbh.

You still recovering from being to made to look like mugs on Saturday?

I throw the 'Council House' jibe back at them as a badge of honour - "Yes it is council owned and we are happy to pay rent as we are part of the Manchester community. What United can't wriggle out of paying goes to Stretford Council and the rest goes to the Cayman Islands". Plus, how fucking snobby is it to look down on people who live in council properties?

He's a rag going of his post history.

Don't get what? I think it's too soon to extend further personally. That's my own opinion.

I also believe that it could cost millions of pounds should we not begin to extend by the end of this season as the planning permission runs out, so I do understand why the club would do it.

it would cost fuck all - the council would let it be extended. technically the works started within 3 years - at one end. Phase 1 has been completed, it was submitted as one planning application so the club may not even have to resubmit another. Anyway it is happening.

We don't "rent" the stadium, we lease it. Big difference.

If we rented it we wouldn't be able to make any alterations and if wouldn't appear on our balance sheet. Leasing it means we take on all the responsibility of ownership.

With this developing City team and the football we will play under Pep in the next few years, a capacity of 61000 may not be enough in three years from now. And with already 10000 on the waiting list it is clear that we will easily be at full capacity or near capacity for all league matches after the new extension is complete.
