Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Thanks for that Hello City.

I know it’s only an arena and there are much more bigger and more complex buildings around the world, but it always amazes me how architects, engineers and construction companies can get everything to fit to the cm. The roof trusses on to the arena exterior steel frame for example
Made me chuckle mate, I worked on the railways for 32 year in the late 80s at the Newton Heath Thorpe Road depot which has all gone now, we were fabricating footbridge sides. We had two steel fabricators working a rag called Norman and Pele (Mike) a mixed race fella who was the worst footballer I've ever seen. They both had the same drawings and I had cut the same plates and flanges for them both.
When we assembled the bridge Norman had managed to get his side a yard shorter nobody could stop laughing, they checked is tools and he had repaired his tape with a spot weld so when he measured he trimmed the plates and flanges to fit his measurements, Norman was banished to making fishplates.

If anyone is interested there is an Open Doors construction event at the Coop Live Arena on the 16th of March between 10am an 12noon. There are 18 places still available.

Click on the link below. If you haven’t already registered, you have to register first. Once you‘ve registered you can book a place. Just answer the questions and follow the steps. Once you’ve booked a place you’ll receive a confirmation email.

I went on the Open Doors event last year. Unfortunately we (including the other people) didn’t get the chance to go onsite because of the weather. THB there wasn’t much to see. Hopefully this time we’ll get a tour of the under construction Coop Live Arena?

Are they still talking about this being delayed? Looks a way off and December looks a pipe dream.

On another note, I notice both sides have no lower tier section. I take it there will be one and they will be retractable like the first 6 rows at the MEN? Also, is there anything in the plans regarding temporary seating at the open end for concerts in the round and sports events?

The pictures show it will

Zoomed in on the roof truss. A little blurred.

Great to get down to Manchester yesterday to see the new Coop Live arena being constructed by the team at BAM UK & Ireland. Photos don’t do justice the size of the thing
