Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

There is no room on the tracks or in the service patterns for more trams. Only new tracks will improve Manchester’s tram network and preferably ones which don’t share roads with stupid car drivers (and buses and lorry drivers too). But at £100M+ per mile to build, I don’t think it will be a good investment as anybody investing will probably be dead before they get their money back.

The solution to Manchester’s public transport problems is more bus lanes and fewer cars. For the Burnley game I tested the bus route for me (10 miles; 3 buses) and was shocked at the snarled up city centre. It was the reason I had a 45 minute wait for bus #2 (timetabled every 9 mins) as it transpired they had to turn back buses mid route, leaving me stranded.

But car owners shout loudest unfortunately.

And I am a car driver by the way.

We've seen you knocking about.

I don’t look for arguments just find some of the posts on here are absolutely ridiculous.

There is another one mentioning buying 150 buses !!! Haha

If we are talking about fantasy nonsense then why stop at fleets of buses ? why not buy a fleet of rockets to get fans back to Piccadilly in seconds.

Back on planet earth we won’t be buying buses, building new transport hubs and laying new train lines.

They will leave transport to TfGM and hope the Bee network with provide solutions.

The idea of buying buses or subsidising a bus service isn't ridiculous at all. It's quite standard. I work in residential development and we have a site for 500 new homes and are paying £1m to fund a new bus service through the site for 5 years. As residents move in, if enough use the service it will then be profitable enough to continue running beyond that 5 year period. As there are local transport issues, that contribution met the legal tests being:

a) necessary to make the development acceptable in planning terms
b) directly related to the development
c) fairly and reasonably related in scale and kind to the development

City will submit a Transport Assessment which will model scenarios, including the Arena and will identify the issues. They'll set out options to address those issues. They'll include the "promote sustainable transport measures" which includes the walking routes and metro and no doubt ticket/metro combinations to get people to the ground sustainably.

But they've tested these options with the South Stand expansion so we'll see the real world impact. There aren't enough trams or buses so it's perfectly reasonable for City to be obligated to pay to subsidise additional services to mitigate the impact of the development. It's how the world works. The Transport companies don't have a pot of cash, they get it from developers or the government when things are really fucked.

Still the same issues, getting in and out of the car park and then into the general traffic would and will be a nightmare, people's habits will have to change.
For habits to change there have to be attractive options. There aren’t any at present for people like me coming from satellite towns round Mcr and there won’t be any in the next 1-2 years by the sound of things. In 3-6 months you could have the gas tower down and the site levelled and ready to park on.

If things change transport wise in the next 4-5 years the club could sell the land on for housing. Can’t lose.

More car parks more cars and more traffic on those roads around the stadium will only make matters worse than they are. Any solutions to make traffic better won't involve more car parking unless it's well away from the stadium and involves park and rides. Park and rides with dedicated bus lanes is the only possible solution I can see.

I'm surprised there isn't a big park and ride being set up on the tramline to Ashton or even with shuttle busses to North/South, needs to be pointing away from town though towards the M60.

Could easily service Etihad and Arena and City Center workers/visitors the rest of the time.

How about we all fly home on dragons after the game? There could be a dragon for each location our ticket holders relate to in order to save on the amount of dragons in the air at one time. The club could pay for it all.
Etihad would welcome us filling their empty planes ;)

Isn’t there a long running rumour that a fleet of new electric buses were going to be bought? Hence why I asked about the buses.
I think the relatively recent demonizing of combustion engines would be responsible for it not forming part of any future.
Electric tram and / or other electric vehicles as you suggest may solve the issue.
