Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

And the same council that will be part funding the new "Wembley of the north" despite what they say publicly.

Scruffy Jim and The Trailer Trash brothers won't be funding anything, yet I get the feeling the deal to build is already done and dusted, too much noise for it not to be.
What noise? Genuine question. I obviously don't proactively look for united news, but i haven't heard a peep in months

The thought of the tax pay stumping up billions/hundreds of millions any time soon is actually making me laugh as I type it. The thought of ratclliffe and the glaziers funding it is even funnier

Very true. There isn’t a hope in hell of any public money going into a new stadium for United. It would be very unpopular in political terms.

United have a big fan base but the vast majority of the electorate support other clubs or are totally antagonistic to football.

There are no votes in pumping money into, historically, the richest club in the country. There lot of votes to be lost in doing so.

I am not even sure that there is much scope for infrastructure development around any new stadium and the whole area is pretty well served by Metrolink.

The Glaziers and Scruffy Jim aren't going to invest in a new stadium so why appoint Norman Fosters firm as chief architect at enormous expense.

The recent public consultations in my experience are usually smoke and mirrors and the decisions have already been made.

So who is going to fund the project? The banks may be somewhat reluctant to get involved with the rags ever increasing losses and incurring debt, so the whole project seems a strange and confessed one much like it's football operation.

Owners of football clubs really don't have a problem spending the clubs money on vanity projects. Employing the services of an expensive architect means fck all. Afterall, they will need a scaled down lego version of the new stadium in order to take the begging bowl round prospective donors. Like that one Swales had made for the redevelopment of Maine Road that was never going to happen.

Disagree, Ineos have come in to them without realising how %ucked up they are at every level.

They will need every penny to sort out the footballing side but I still don't understand why Radcliffe would take on this situation with a minority shareholding, it does not make sense to me.

The Glazers could get a bid today and sell their share and Scruffy Jim is out at least out of controlling the club.

Ratcliffe was an anonymous billionaire a few years ago, he could have died and no one would have know who he was. He wanted to be known, so he has got himself involved in sport, football and cycling. Like all successful businessmen he believes that his success, in his field of expertise, can easily be translated to sport, like all the others in the past he is finding out that sport is different. He’s taken the minority because he doesn’t want to risk his wealth and the Glaziers have played a blinder
