Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

It's hugely important, it' will be an iconic venue and the exterior would be far better if it looked iconic rather than a box.

Look at the Sydney opera house, one of the most iconic structures in the world, even though the interior is very underwhelming.
I get what u are saying and u are totally correct

but let’s not forget , this structure is tucked away behind the Etihad, not on the banks of the Clyde in central Glasgow or on the front of Sydney harbour!

anyway ,I think it will look stunning with the proposed LED outer skin ,

It will be on full view, that area looks good, the Velodrome , Etihad and training ground look stunning but putting a big box next to them is a bit of a let down.

It could and in my opinion should have looked far better and iconic, they have missed a trick.

Manchester gets a lot of worldwide attention these days.

ADUG own the land in the joint venture with Manchester City Council.

CFG entered a partnership with Oak View Group in summer 2019 re the development. Oak View, until this announcement, were fully funding the project without any tax subsidies (common in other countries for developments of this type) but there will be other investors involved and not just Harry Styles.

It was always the case CFG would be making money from the land. CFG and MCC are landlords and will derive income from the lease agreement which is split t 80% CFG and 20% MCC.

As you say, with this new announcement, we will also be generating additional £mils. I wouldn't like to hazard a guess as to how much.

@tolmie's hairdoo righty suggested this was huge. Presumably CFG will be looking for similar arrangements as the remainder of the campus is developed.

I should also add CFG (in association with Silver Lake) are leading the way amongst football clubs/groups in terms of e-commerce. This is never reported and >99% of football supporters, the main stream media etc are blind to the potential future income streams.

As supporters we better get used to the idea that in the years ahead, as the flagship for CFG, we will be far and away the biggest and wealthiest in the world. UAE sponsorship might continue for City/CFG but this will be a splash in the ocean relative to all other CFG income streams.

Meanwhile, the likes of Delaney, Rory Smith, Tariq Panja, the Harris twins and all the broadsheets like the Guardian etc peddle their shit that our "project" is all about sportswashing to the exclusion of any business/investment motive.
Wouldn’t surprise me at all if the Co-op Live arena is our shirt sponsor a few years down the line

I might be wrong, but I envisage that the extension of the north stand and updating of the rotting stadium roof would be followed by some kind of wrap on the stadium. Perhaps not iconic but slick. Maybe they want something in keeping with the stadium and not something more impressive than it?

Still think the end result will make u feel different
Give it a chance

I think you are right. If you look at the pictures you dont really get a feel for its size, but if you look at the picture posted earlier and the etihad, it looks so much bigger in that picture. With the blue LED wrap around the top i think it will look amazing.

Nearly as bored as the exterior of the venue.

Looks outstanding inside but my word what a dull looking building for all the money put into it.
I really like the look of it. Simple, clean lines, nice blue lights crown around the top… it’s classy!

Classy > jazzy

They are afraid very afraid. :-)
I loved Pep's post match quote: "If people think it is all about money they have made a big fucking mistake." This was a bit of light bulb moment for me. It made me think that one reason City have not been more aggressive in pushing back on the ludicrous "sportswashing" narrative is that it suited the club to let our commercial rivals go up a blind alley.
Let's face it we have cleaned up with our business model (the full globalisation of football) and there has been no scrutiny at all of what CFG is actually doing. Our main business competitors have dismissed our global expansion as "just a sportswashing exercise." That looks like "a big fucking mistake" to me.
