It's turning into a nothing presentation.

Lot's of clue's, but no meat on the bone.

I think most fans wanted the stadium to be extended and look nice, with leisure/retail/hotels/skyscrapers on the spare land.

The only thing I got out of todays announcement is that they want to turn the ground into the finest sports campus in the world. Which is not a bad thing, but when they talk about developers collaborating, it sounds like they want to turn it into a mini-city centre too with mixed use buildings. I'm just expecting a generic campus building, a few shops, and more tenants to be announced.. So far we have Rugby/Athletics/Football/Cycling on the wider campus...
 
Sounds like they aren't getting enough interest in building stuff, anything that is interesting developers they're probably arguing over the same space (hence the collaboration) and it's basically a sales pitch to drum up more interest to build stuff across the site.

That's certainly how it sounds based on the Twitter feed. There doesn't seem to have been any big announcement, anyway.

It was a bit of an ant climax. Obviously have plans but don’t think they’ll be realised anytime soon.
 
just read last 5 pages - and completely "off the wall" - I thought they will develop the Ashton Canal area - a bit like Castlefields.
Bars , leisure etc....
 
Perhaps the 'MIPIM moment 'was for Collar Site purists only? It was all a bit dry really.

That said I don't think this was a pitch for investors or partners - with the connections that the ownership ofCFG have that would be a very strange move to have to make - I think we saw the first mutterings ahead of the next phase of planning announcements. It's all part of the faux consultation process that such large changes to an area inevitably go through.

I think there are a few elements that the council will need to lead on -

1. There will surely be a re-designation of some of the land from it's current housing use - this needs to be handled with care else the 'social cleansing' debate gets heated.

2. Infrastructure to handle the traffic will mean that considerable CPO's will likely come into play - and this might be far from the Collar Site to allow traffic flow etc.

3. The development area as we know it will likely be part of a wider portfolio owned by ADUG/CFG, MCC, HCA and other speculative investors -over the past decade there has been ample time for people to buy property near or within any development are in order to make a few quid or indeed get a seat at the table?

4 I would expect the existing JV that gifted the land to ADUG on a time-bound proposition will have to be re-visited -perhaps that would be one reason why MIPIM happened "W need more time".

5. Lastly, one for the haters - ASDA must go!

Anyway, a modern multi-purpose sporting/concert venue will be on-site, an expanded CAMPUS for CFG as well as other sports. Expect both codes of rugby to have a training/rehab presence ( I still wonder about the AD links with 'Quins ) Rugby 7's is a world wide sport that takes in all manner of places but the UKLeg might be something that could be in Manchester.

Ironically, way back in the early days of this thread I mentioned that I had been told that Melbourne was the model for the area. It seems as if we have come full circle and indeed Melbourne is exactly the model.
 
Let's put this MIPIM anti-climax in to perspective, even though my glass is still 3/4's full because of Manchester's property boom, and over 50 cranes currently peppering the Manchester City centre skyline. The record is 63 cranes set during the last property boom. There's a chance we could beat that with plenty more city centre proposals due to start construction this year.

11 years on since Manchester won the Super Casino race, and the Collar Site is still empty. 11 years on!
