Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

In the Independent newspaper it says the ETIHAD holds 60,000.
when talking about the Rugby World Cup for 2015.
Sorry I cannot post a link but it is on the Newsnow site.

-- Wed Apr 03, 2013 11:32 pm --

part of the Independent article---
"But local politicians and business leaders in Manchester are keen on bringing the World Cup to the city and even though the Etihad holds only 60,000 spectators, an agreement would allow the Rugby Football Union to deliver its promise to lay on a nationwide spectacle, rather than a London-centric one."

I can only think they're getting the capacity for a concert (when thousands more are on the pitch) mixed up with the actual seated capacity.

Wank newspaper but the 60k thing continues...

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

60k would be enough to try and host CL final?

so whether or not we extend the ground will be determined on whether or not the country is awarded the rugby world cup?

dont think so, but if england is awarded the world cup (an almost certainty) would it really be bad thing if the RFU and sport england part funded our stadium expansion.
egg chasers and tax payers funding our bigger stadium, think how pissed the rags will be.

this deal would also explain the silence on the expansion plans. if we are trying to get money out of RFU and sport england, the club would not want to tip their hand

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Firstly England 2015 is already awarded so the RWC will be here in 2 years time.

18 September 2015 – 31 October 2015

In short it s expected that the Etihad will be transformed into a 60k stadium between now and then is it?

897 days to be precise.

With work unable to commence until after the last concert this summer on 18th June (iirc).

Its gonna be an interesting 800 days folks.

-- Thu Apr 04, 2013 12:29 am --

Interestingly they had OT with a 75k capacity and the Olympic Stadium with an 80k capacity in their original bid.

Ooops.

A lot of concerts block off one end of the stadium with the stage so i presume they could continue work on this end? (Unless it's in the round)
