Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Henry Winter has a piece in the Telegraph this morning about the state of play at MCFC in the light of Yaya Toure signing his new contract in the week. The full piece is here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ity-Yaya-Toure-deal-shows-Citys-ambition.html

However, I thought it may just be worth copying and pasting the extract below into this thread given that Winter seems to be one of the journalists who's been taken into the confidence of senior people at the club over the past couple of years.

There is dust in the air as well as ink on the paper at City. For all the misgivings over how the sums (as sponsorship or owner hand-out) have been juggled to appease FFP (Financial Fair Play), the £100 million Etihad Campus is a gem.

The City Football Academy rises with a large V-shaped building already constructed, soon to house tractors and other machinery.

Some of the 16 pitches have been levelled, with City’s first team and Academy aiming to be in-situ for the 2014-15 pre-season. The Campus, situated in a bereft area with polluted soil, will greatly benefit community as well as club.

Feasibility studies continue into how the Etihad Stadium can be expanded whether one or two stands at a time or a whole new tier placed on top.

With former Barcelona executives on board in Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain, the manner of Nou Camp’s erstwhile redevelopment has been mentioned. Digging down would be too difficult.

Newcastle United considered that at St James’ Park during Sir John Hall’s reign but realised the Metro ran under the centre-circle.

Cheers for posting Petrusha. Interesting read - Winter's words do hold much more credence than most.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

On the subject of capacity for rugby, here's a thought; Do they need all seater?
In other words, would it be possible to remove sections of seating to increase capacity to 60,000 for the rugby, and then put them back. I don't think it's difficult to remove seats individually, although it could be a lot of work to remove thousands.

Hope I haven't burst anybody's bubble!

not possible, no bubble burst

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

physically its possible - anyone who went to the Supporters Club AGM in the Boardroom two years ago, got to see the 2nd tier either side of the Exec seats in exactly that formation as they were swapping out the plastic seats for the current squishy ones - doubt it would get past the HSE though...

we haven't released the figures that Etihad pay us per year and as I understand it the figure will rise year-on-year.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

I think SSN reported Utd's ground sponsorship was worth £15m p.a. An absolute drop in the ocean compared to the Etihad deal. We have been pioneers in this country for all-encompassing sponsorship, and was always likely others would follow suit.

Of course United HAD to stick on an 'expert' on national TV just to highlight how shrewd they have been in extracting more revenues...ffs
