Etihad sponsorship

Purely from a PR perspective, the club should look to move away from Ethiad as the main shirt sponsor as it will forever be tainted from an outsiders point of view and used as a stick to beat us with.

The club obviously care about the reputation, so this would be a quick win and surely there’s some suitors out there that be willing to put some decent offers on the table.

I wouldn’t completely write off Etihad just yet. The airline industry has been in dire straits for years - in need of consolidation etc. Flag carriers and national government pride - together with state subsidies and the cynical use of Chapter 11 by US airlines have distorted the airline industry. Going forward some players will go to the wall and the future will rest with those airlines that can operate at the lowest cost - and in practical terms that will be those with the cash to buy the newest fleets because fuel is an airlines biggest cost. Etihad can be a player because they can put the right structure in place to be competitive very quickly, something that Lufthansa, BA and Air France cannot do.
Agreed, they have put big investment in during the covid shutdown, they could be in very good position when people start travelling again.
Many airlines are in a very bad place, and Etihad will be there to pick up the pieces.

#ManCity's long association with Etihad is set to continue beyond the upcoming season. The 10-year partnership agreed in 2009 is set to go past the initially announced 2020/21 campaign and City are hopeful the relationship is prolonged further. [

We can continue Etihad for Stadium but may be we can still look for new shirt sponsor or vice versa

If the shirt sponsor will not change thats because we cannot get the same money from any other company.
We certainly would be happy to change Etihad if someone like Amazon would offer Etihads money or even more than that.

We still have time to get offers in, I hope we change Etihad for a better offer. The look on the face of Pool, United supporters if we have a US sponsor paying more than Etihad would be priceless.
If there is no better offer than Etihad has to stay but even them has to pay more imo.

Etihad looks really smart on our shirts but having UAE based business on our shirts is poor for our image IMO.

Non UAE based shirt sponsor would give the business more credence.

Not sure I agree. Etihad are a good organisation with a good reputation and we shouldn’t let the snipers and detractors convince us we shouldn’t have a Middle Eastern sponsor. If you think why our owners originally purchased the club then it’s consistent with that strategy to have Etihad as our title sponsor. We are doing nothing wrong. Do English or US owners face similar criticism or have similar internal debates about the nationality of their sponsor? Of course not. Personally I hope we extend with Etihad and get even more money from them sticking two fingers up to the hateful 8 including Arsenal... remind me who sponsors their shirt and stadium again...?

I think the plan was def to change sponsors, but given the economic situation of most companies, cash to invest into sponsorship probably isn't the highest priority right now. A short term extension with Etihad until we are in a position to switch up, would be a good deal.

Announcement coming Monday that city will have signed the biggest duel sponsorship kit deal in sporting history. One is exclusively for the Premier League and the other for all cup competitions.

Below is our new PL Sponsor.

Consider that:
  • See City's global structure - City have clubs across the world under an umbrella structure
  • Manchester's ownership is split between owners from the UAE, China and the US
  • City's UAE based commercial income is an ever-diminishing fraction of our commercial income and overall revenue.
And most importantly why are you establishing some kind of world national ethical league? Do you really think that UK or US capital is cleaner and more ethical than Arab capital? Look at the characters owning British business and football clubs. Ironically much of the criticism of City's owners comes from supporters who hate their own US owners (Arsenal and Manchester United) which pretty much destroys the argument that US is good and Arab bad.
