First post ever so apologies if I’m in the wrong place. We’ve been travelling up to the odd game with our son from Worcestershire for several years and transport and parking are something we seem to always get wrong.

We’ve tried various permutations but haven’t found the best solution.

If you were travelling from the M6 for an evening game (Like tomorrow? Yes, we got tickets!!) what would be the best route to the Etihad and where would you park?

I now feel it looks like coming in from the M60 up the A34 or A6 and parking in the Ashbury station/ Ashton Old Road looks about the best. Any help much appreciated as its pretty crap getting home at 1:30 (he has his German speaking GCSE exam this Thursday)!!

I also come up from that area and Ashburys/Stylewise UK Ltd parking area is the best bit, as you can get away from the ground quickly after the game. Best route there is to get off at J19 of the M6, onto the M56 and then down Princess Parkway (we find traffic on the M60 pretty bad after 3pm) You end up on ring road and then access Ashton Old Road from there.

You can either go back that way after the game, or get onto the M60.

Thanks Bill, we used Princess Parkway a couple of times on Saturday games, it was fine. Then recently due to an accident on the M60 in rush hour..... we did it for an evening game and I was pleasantly surprised how trouble free it was. Thanks.

I travel up from Hagley North Worcestershire for home games and from where you come from parking at Parkway Metrolink Station Park and Ride followed by a 35 minute Metrolink journey to the Etihad Campus (changing at Cornbrook or St Peters Square) is probably the easiest and quickest route.
Metrolink station address:
Trafford Park, Stretford, Manchester M17 1LP

Get the Metrolink app on your phone if you do it.
Metrolink is Tap and ride with any payment card.
Parking up near and getting away from the ground is a nightmare most games since the capacity was extended.
Don't expect to get home before 1:30am either.
Nightly M6 roadworks only take account of Rag games.

We always park in the blue car park, leave 5 minutes before the end, jog down and your out and along the road straight away, reckon it would be a nightmare getting out if you stayed to the end though, which obviously if it’s a close exciting game you would want to

Cheers blueanorak, we've considered getting to Ashton Under Lyme or even somewhere on the south side of Manchester to use public transport in but not the option you've described. Good to know of different ways, funnily enough I worked for a company based 5 minutes away for about 5 years so could probably drive there on autopilot. Edincity we've nearly always used the blue car park and it's at least an hour by the time you're off and completely free of the gridlock around the ground! It's the main reason we want to try other options. Isn't the orange car park for season ticket holders?
